bi polar type 2 |
hi,
i have just prepared a list of my symptoms
for my psychiatrist for the last 6-8 months
during which time i have been med free (seroxat)
last time i saw him he hinted at bi polar type 2
but was reluctant to properly diagnose this
and wants to try me with effexor xl at 75, i am naturally
wary of this without a mood stabilisier as i tried prozac
once and it sent me mental.
i have been ill on and off for the last 7 years or so
and have mostly used seroxat with varying degress of success
symptoms,
over the last 8 months i have had a very varied degree of symptoms
i have had periods of feeling very normal and level headed for some of say
60 percent of the last 8 months.
probably 40 percent of the last 8 months during every other week i have had
symptoms
of quite severe irritability, agitation. with mild depression between these
episodes
i would say that scince februrary of this year up until october i have had
approximately
3 to 4 very bad depressive episodes with very strong suicidal thoughts
occuring for up to 3 to 4 days
disappearing then reoccuring over the period of a few weeks for each of the
episode
the weeks between these episodes i have had periods of very normal mood.
with the irritability and agitation
occasionally present
my symptoms comprise of the following.
depressive symptoms (severe) very strong suicidal thoughts, feeling like
crying, wanting to sleep more.
mild paranoia. feelings of feeling 'dead' and like life has been sucked out
of me
general chest and stomach pains, and a very unwell feeling because of this
more prevalent recently
with onset of latest depressive episode and in the last 8 months scince
comming off seroxat
agitated/hypomanic symptoms
these symptopms usually last a week or so at their peak and i have had a
couple of moderate to
severe episodes in the last 8 months these symptoms are present also but in
a milder form between episodes
episodes of feeling extremly emotionaly agitated with a recent episode of
feeling this way for about a week at its
peak, feeling like must be always doing something and cannot rest, althoug
not acting on these impulses most of the time.
feeling like staying up all night or running miles and miles just to bring
myself down, or for the sake of it.
everything has to be a kind of an 'all or nothing scenario' in doing day to
day activities, everything has to be perfect
and i wont tolerate any failure in anything, generally things just dont feel
right.
mood disturbances
very sudden mood changes from one minute to the next from normal feelings to
feelings of complete emotional
despair and suffering these feelings will come and go and be very intense
over the period of 30 seconds then
change for another 30 seconds, then change back again. dificulty in taking
in information and with concentration
as if my head somewhere else for a little time.
1 episode of bad paranoia in the last 8 months whislst moving into new
accommodation
very bad stomach and diaroeeah with this episode. scared feelings and
feeling really freaked out.
anxiety symptoms
excessive worry, generally about new situations, and moving forward in life,
although i have no panic attacks and am generally calm in most social
situations and sociable and friendly.
other symptoms,
which are prevalent at any time are the following
ticks and clicks comming from inside my head, similar to the pops on a
scratched record.
a preoccupation when alone with seeing tiny black spots in my field of
vision that appear and dissappear
rapidly
thanks for listening
from budney

this must be hard to take
you might ask on news:alt.support.depression.medication also
IMO & IANAD &c you do well to be wary of the Effexor.

prozac sent me "mental" too. effexor xr hasn't, so far.
I would be wary too
effexor xr hasn't had that effect on me. st john's wort made me manic,
though, and (as far as i know) i'm not even bipolar.
