Bipolar II |
Hi, i'm new to the newsgroup and am looking for support/info for Bipolar II.
Anyone have any experience in this area? I've recently been diagnosed and
am just not sure how to live with it yet.
Thanks

This is a great online support group for Bipolars. I rarely post, but
I learn a lot from the members. The moderators post useful articles
and tips.

Otherwise? It sucks. Take your meds. You're not alone.
yours truly, Bipolar II (finally got it right three years ago after
20+ years of being misdiagnosed)

You are more than welcome here, but you'll probably get more results
from questions about BP II from the alt.support.depression.manic.*
newsgroups.

I've been dealing with bipolar II disorder since being diagnosed with it
nearly 18 years ago. What questions, general or specific, do you have?

I guess my question is have you found the right medications to stabilize the
hypomanic stages. My hypomanic stages consist of extreme agitation and
isolation. It's hard for me to interact and have any clear flowing
thoughts. I'm on lamictal, abilify and zoloft and I still feel all of these
symptoms.

You might actually be feeling side effects of Abilify and/or Zoloft,
both of which can potentially cause agitation, insomnia and anxiety.
Lamictal has been known to cause hypomania in some cases, although not often.
At this point, all I'm taking is Nardil (75 mg/day), a last-resort
antidepressant which typically works very well for patients such as
myself who suffer from atypical depression combined with social phobia.
I've not had much luck with mood stabilizers, but I seem to be dealing
with mood swings more successfully through aggressive nutritional
therapy. B vitamins and calcium appear to help me greatly, as they
support proper functioning of the nervous system. This is especially
important for me, since my bipolar II is exacerbated by Tourette's syndrome.
Why did your doctor prescribe those specific medications for you? Have
you discussed your ongoing problems with hypomania with your pdoc? If
you're bipolar II, I have to wonder why you're taking Abilify, which is
an antipsychotic usually given to patients who are bipolar I.
