Object: Blog, anger, problems with dad
My computer is sitting on my desk now, even though it is not quite
completed. I found a hammer lying underneath something, I think I will work
on it later tonight if I'm up to it
Persent, slunky, and others - sorry if I got upset, I do not like the tone
that some people have towards me lately. Maybe I do to, or maybe it is
something from the recent past, who knows. He will likely encourage jail or
prison - my dad. sometimes we just don't connect.
I am still dealing with urges, impulses to hit myself. Hanging up is not
fun, but I won't talk with the rage that my father has towards me.
I am going to keep working on the desk, I need a power cord for the printer
that I can't find and to fix up the drawers and finish the hutch.
Hope that all are ok.

What kind of printer do you have? Inkjet, laser, dot matrix? I've got a
really nice color laser printer. I like it.

It's a Dell color inkjet, I bought for $150. It doesn't print straight,
maybe if I reset it it will. I also have an hp but it needs to be cleaned
and is out of black ink.

It's really unlikely that it would be a fuse. The only time I come
across a *proper* fuse on PC electrical parts is inside the PC's main
power supplies. They're usually little 250V, 10A glass barrel style.
That's not to say it didn't get killed by a surge. Does it use a
wall-wart to convert the power from AC to DC, or is that internal? When
was it made?
Most higher end scanners offer a way to be easily opened partially. To
allow you to clean the bottom side of the glass. What's the make/model?
I killed my last scanner by forgetting to engage the latch that locks
the scan head from moving when the device is being moved around. So now
the coordination between where the scanner electronics *think* the scan
head is and where it is *physically* differs slightly.
I got a "free" (after rebate) scanner, copier, photo printer. I refuse
to install the drivers though. HP has become such a lousy company these
days. There's NO REASON that drivers for a scanner and a printer should
have a 300+MB installer! I don't need all that shitty software on my
machine. So I can use it as a regular copier with the buttons on top, as
well as plugging in flash memory cards and being able to fully use all
the photo printing abilities sans computer.
Most pressing need for a scanner in my life? As part of a copier.

HP Products from that era are generally pretty solid products. It very
well may be worth fixing up. Perhaps not worth investing $ in
"factory-esque repairs", but it might be something that just need a
geek-smack.

I forgot to unlock the head and thought the motor was burned out. It
took me about a half hour to realize that. I was lucky, the person who
sent me the printer left it unlocked when they shipped it.

If you think HP is bad, look at Lexmark. Their installers are 600MB, and
it's all for the stupid graphics and voices built into the software. Not
to mention the daemon it runs made my last computer lag like crazy.

The only reason I would purchase their printers is because the low-end
models can be had so cheaply when new that it's less $$ than buying a
set of print cartridges for just about every other printer. I know a
couple of people that do just that too, and I weep for the environment -

Gone are the days when buying a printer was the cheap way of getting a
full set of manufacturer's cartridges. All you had to do was throw the
printer and box away.

I got a good one. It came with a USB cable and a cat-5e cable and all
four toner cartridges. It's a Samsung, but it was much more expensive

I print to the Adobe PDF "printer" more than anything, but when our last
printer died and it came time to replace it I got a B&W laser printer.
We never used color on the last printer and so it only made sense to get
a printer that will cost about 80% less per page and allow us to replace
the cartridge every ~12 months.
Color laser someday, but it's probably not going to be *this* user on
the network pushing for it.

I hardly use the color. Just to print a logo on the shipping labels, and
toner cartridges sure beat dried up Lexmark ink cartiridges that dry up

I print to the Adobe PDF "printer" more than anything, but when our last
printer died and it came time to replace it I got a B&W laser printer.
We never used color on the last printer and so it only made sense to get
a printer that will cost about 80% less per page and allow us to replace
the cartridge every ~12 months.

Color laser someday, but it's probably not going to be *this* user on
the network pushing for it.

I hardly use the color. Just to print a logo on the shipping labels, and
toner cartridges sure beat dried up Lexmark ink cartiridges that dry up
after five pages of color.

The "dry" color is why I'd consider a color laser eventually.

I've always liked toner more than ink, and the toner cartirdge is about
ten times bigger than an ink cartiridge. 20 times bigger than some photo
printers. I just hesitate to run sticky labels through it. I'm waiting
to find a ream of labels that says "laser friendly". I would hate to gum
up the fuser with cheap glue.

A cheap thermal printer has always been the best for that IMO.

You can find a large selection of labels approved for use in laser
printers at http://www.onlinelabels.com. You can get free samples
for testing if you would like to fill out the sample request form at
