Object: "Borrowing" from myself...
At my JFS graduation today,I was talking about how about 10 years
ago,I was watching 20/20 with my gramma, and Roseanne Arnold was talking
about how she had "many personalities".Barbara Walters said "Does that
mean she has multiple personality disorder?"And my gramma said to me
"no,that's not what it means. It means she has different parts of
herself that she borrows from when she needs them." I felt that my
Gramma intuitively understood the need to do this...I explanied today
that I often need to do this...I need to borrow from old memories, from
different sides of myself, from people I know and have observed...So,to
me,trying on different moods,different personalities,different sides
isn't being necessarilly being dishonest(though I guess it can be)...it
could be just about finding yourself by exploring, experimenting, role
playing. In a way I think it's much more honest then just showing one
side...I think that's one reason(there are many reasons) why I have
trouble with some types of criticism,as well as some types of
praise...I want to be sean above all as a complex,3 dimensional person
with many different sides to me.I don't want to be
judged, labeled, stigmatized based on only one or 2 sides to me,when
I,just like everyone else has many sides...Maybe to some extent,it's
human nature that until you really know someone well, you kind of
sterotype them, turn them into a cartoon...I really dislike when people
turn me into a cartoon, but I've realized that I sometimes do it to
other people as well. That's something I really have to be aware of in
myself...
