Object: breaking old habits
One thing I'm trying to work on is breaking old habits, old
patterns.. many of the habits are nervous habits,I think... for
example, biting my nails. I stopeed biting my nails for 3 and a halph
weeks, but then I started biting them again... It's very hard for me to
stop,I always get a strong urge to start biting them... Also, not
talking to myself is a hard habit to break. Since I was a kid,I've
always had the habit of talking to myself out loud...I try not to do it
in public, but sometimes I'm not even aware I'm doing it... I remember a
friend in High school telling me I needed to stop talking to myself. I
wasn't even aware I was doing it in public...that's a tough habit to
break as well... I think I'm getting better at stopping certain habits
though... for example, for many years,I'd pull my hair out and eat the
hair...I finally managed to stop this habit, after many years, and a lot
of nagging about it... I also don't tear things such as napkins and
clothing up anymore,at least not often...

I have had some habits I'm working on, like trying to come off
caffiene. My mom says it takes about two or three weeks to finally
break one, but I tend to think it's longer, especially those with
things that are chemically addictive, like caffiene or nicotine. I did
finally quit smoking, and now I feel like I'm ready to do away with the
pop, at least for awhile until I can break that routine and realize
it's ok without it. I also probably have other patterns and routines
that might bother someone else if they were to stay here.
I also think that doing too much at once can be stressful, not that it
hasn't been done before, I kind of like the gradual approach.

caffeine... it's a mixed blessing I guess... it gives me energy but
my thoughts get more obsessive...I'm not sure it's worth it.... good
luck to you. breaking old habits is definately not easy...

I get that same reaction from coffee, but not so much from pop (that
I'm aware of). Maybe for now I'll try working on the coffee, I've been
trying to replace one with the other.

scroll down a bit for the phrase "Other data on caffeine" on this
page:
http://coffeefaq.com/caffaq.html#HowMuchCaff
You still might get some headache from pop withdrawal, if it has
caffeine in it.
