*****, maybe I should have mentioned this before: I've had problems
with two buggy mainboards that seemed nearly impossible to locate
(until I read of them in the web): my former Soyo mainboard, VIA
chipset based, was an early revision and used a faulty chipset that
caused a lot of problems (including data corruption!) when using both
internal IDE channels - up to the point were I gave up using channel
2; my current mainboard isn't exactly buggy, but is extremely
sensitive to temperature and to the quality of the power supply (it
sucks a lot of current and needs it to be very stable): when using
graphic intensive software the computer used to hang, no matter which
gfx card I used, as long as the card used the AGP bus. After much
searching I found the only solution is to use a good quality chassis
that has sufficient air flow and a very high-quality power supply. In
the interim the proposed solution (which has worked so far) was to
lower the speed of one of the internal clocks (that made my system go
from 1.6 GHz CPU, 133 MHz memory bus to 1.2 GHz CPU, 100 MHz memory
bus, but I haven't noticed any decrease in performance).

I am disappointed about making clone computers. There are a bunch of things
to take care of..Every piece of the hardware has to work well with the rest,
a task that requires you to be up to date with specifications and tests on
performance of components. And even when you go computer shopping, it is
rare that they have what you want, unless you buy online. My next computers
will be propietary.
