Did you know that Davis and Berkeley are Nuclear Free Zones? We

How extensive is their purity? Do they use electricity from nuke
plants? Or do they have their own feed from Altamont Pass?
Funny, UC Berkeley runs Los Alamos, or did, I forget if they got

We should try and trick them into becoming fusion free also, and then place
a geostationary satellite in orbit that is large enough to perpetually
eclipse the sun over that area.
Okay, Montgomery Burns tried something similar and got shot by Maggie...

I knew about Berkeley, not about Davis, though.
When I was in the Navy Japan and Hong Kong were nuclear free, we
couldn't have any nukes aboard when we went there.

Is that the plan? I always figured Berkeley would just sue any nuke that
detonated within the city limits, or charge it with very, very, very
disorderly conduct.

Oh thanks a bunch for saying that. I thought I recognized the acronym, but
couldn't quite place it. So I looked up CFIDS. Now *I* have it.
Don't get me wrong... I'm not accusing you of giving it to me. ;)
Okay, so the symptoms are pretty much pot luck. I do have chronic
exhaustion, or malaise. Yet sometimes I'm near manic and bounding with
energy. Until I crash.
I also have cognitive difficulties. Concentration and such. Reading
actually makes me very tired. Not newsgroups so much. Posts are usually
relatively short, and it's interspersed with typing replies. But books
tend very often to work as well as sleeping pills. That, and some OCD/ADD
symptoms. I can get stuck repeatedly re-reading a single sentence. Or I
can read a page and then realize that I have no clue what I just read,
forcing me to read it again. Yet sometimes I can read voraciously with no
problems. But that is why I like audio books so much. I can keep my eyes
closed. I've always gained more from hearing than the other senses. I
used to irritate teachers by staring out the window instead of paying
attention and taking notes, yet I'd still ace the tests.
Hmm, what else. No joint pain or chronic flu symptoms. I have a problem
with lower back pain, but not much else in the actual pain department.
I do have an intolerance to heat and cold. But not all the time. I love
the jacuzzi and sauna - I even credit them with completely curing lifelong
eczema. But I often can't seem to get warm enough, yet when I go to bed I
tend to overheat and get night sweats. Night sweats are common with the
males in my family. I wake up all sweaty, and then freeze because of the
wet sheets. Sometimes I need to get up and get a beach towel to lay on the
bed to even be comfortable. But my usual body temperature is a little
lower than normal.
I used to be rather prone to stomach upset and general gastric
disturbances. But not so much since I've started taking digestive enzymes
before eating. I do have a chronic lack of appetite though. Most people
in my family, except for my father, have learned that trying to coax me to
eat can produce an angry reaction. I don't eat unless I damn well feel
like eating. That's usually only once a day. But I tend to maintain body
weight pretty well. Maybe all the calories from Mountain dew.
Ah well. I really wish that someday someone would post the disease I have
and then follow up with "... and there is a very simple and sure cure!!!"
I'd even be happy having the disease named after me, as long as there was a
cure and I wasn't dead yet. I'd even go on Oprah and get all misty about
it.

Hey, you just might. Lotsa folks have it and don't know it. Just like
the many people who have type II diabetes and are unaware of it.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not accusing you of giving it to me. ;)

Of course. :) But if you have it, you couldn't accuse *anyone* of
giving it to you, since doctors still don't know how one acquires it.

The keys to proper diagnosis are:
1. Unrelenting fatigue.
2. Post-exertional malaise lasting more than 24 hours.
3. These symptoms are present for at least six months.
4. They predate all other symptoms.
The other symptoms commonly linked to CFIDS--brain fog, chronic flu
symptoms, unrelieved sore throat, etc.--might or might not accompany the
illness. This is because "chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction
syndrome" is an umbrella term for a variety of illnesses of unknown
origin, all of which share the four main symptoms listed above. Severity
varies in degree, from benign chronic tiredness to an almost utter state
of incapacity.

Ah well. I really wish that someday someone would post the disease I have
and then follow up with "... and there is a very simple and sure cure!!!"

Well, look at it this way: There is in fact no such thing as an

I like to think that. But then I'm reminded of the fact that in the entire
history of medicine the only actual cure ever produced has been
antibiotics. Everything else amounts to treating symptoms or cutting
things up and seeing if it helps.

chemotherapy, maybe?

I don't think it qualifies since it is only (hopefully) destroying
cancerous cells. It doesn't address the cause of the problem, which isn't
even known.
Conversely, antibiotics just kill bacteria, but the bacteria are actually
the cause of the disease. (Vaccines don't really qualify since that
doesn't actually kill viruses, it just prompts your body to marshals it's
own defenses.)
All in all medicine seem more about treating than curing. I guess that's
why they call it "practicing" medicine. :)

I tend to have similar feelings about ***** Morris. He is very insightful
so I don't automatically cast aside anything he says. But he does seem
very peeved about something and I wonder what the whole story is.
Then again, I can't believe that any guy who likes sucking women's toes can
be all bad... Well okay, he was paying for it and that's kind of loopy.

Hadn't heard of that one yet.

so far only at film festivals; no word on the reception it got at those
venues. Sounds interesting, though, particularly with Penn Jillette as
its narrator.

Do you think it'll get a standing ovation at Cannes?

Not knowing anything about it, I expect that anything Penn Jillette
attaches his name to *should* get a standing ovation. Penn is my kind of
libertarian foole. Who else would have the showmanship to send a camera
crew to an earth day rally and get people to sign a petition to ban
Dihydrogen Monoxide?

Anywho, from what I've been able to glean, "Fahrenhype 9/11," released
earlier this month on video, does a far better job of debunking Moore.

The NY Times preferred "Fahrenhype 9/11" over "Celsius 41.11," stating
the former was much more of a fact-based enterprise and less of an
emotion-propelled reaction piece than was the latter. Probably didn't do
"41.11"'s cause any good that Knobloch, early in the film, showed
footage of Moore and Kerry with an image of Hitler sandwiched between them.

Cannes gave the Palme d'Or to "Barton Fink" and "Wild at Heart," and
*twice* to "The Tin Drum." The festival compromised its credibility with
me decades ago. Who cares what they applaud?

well, I've never heard of those two films. But they completely lost
credibility with me for the F911 "documentary"

I remember watching The Tin Drum years ago while getting high with a
friend. We laughed our asses off through the whole thing.
