Yea, it hits extra hard when you see someone go, who keeps trying to have
hope and keeps fighting to get better.
It seems like it's not just the person that dies, but hope dies too.

Small comfort that it is, his passing was announced on many NGs,
OT and other.

didn't he?

It's his superhero status in our minds that got profoundly shaken.
Superheroes don't have accidents, Superheroes don't die, especially not
before their time.
Finding courage to persevere is not such a common thing, not to be
underestimated.

I usually am not the slightest bit interested in an actor's private
life, but in this case, I did take a bit more notice. You see, I had
a crush on him from Somewhere In Time and then Superman 1 & 2. And
I'd just barely begun horse riding lessons a couple months before
fell. So everyone asked me if that changed my interest. No, it
didn't. Not until my own fall the following October. I felt
incredibly lucky not to have fallen on my head.
So anyway. This one hits me a little harder.

I suppose it goes without saying that there is a part of me that doesn't
feel much sympathy for someone who jumps on the back of another animal and
yells Geronimo!!!
But then I'm a cat person. If I jumped on SweetPea's back it would kill

I don't see how. You have to keep in mind that a big wallop of wishful
thinking does not make the research any more valuable. The fact is that
the only successes in stem cell research have come from adult stem cells.
Hollywood types try to make it seem as if the research is being blocked.
That simply isn't true. And here we are with the first President to

I don't think that's entirely true, but it does appear that fetal tissue
is/has become totally irrelevant to the reasearch.

It was and is, when it comes from fetal tissue... luckily it appears that
fetal tissue isn't needed.

I was just suggesting that C.R. got the issue on TV and put a face on
it... which is about all you can expect from a celeb.

I should have said the only successful *products*, have come from adult
stem cells. Research itself is successful even when it fails, I suppose.

Yes. And that single issue was used as if the whole matter actually
depended on it.
It reminds me of the Nazi research on starvation and hypothermia. There
was a lot of debate in the scientific community as to whether it was
ethical to use the data, since it was gathered at the expense of Jews in
death camps.

Yes, he and Michael J. Fox. But it seems that they intentionally used the
issue politically to support liberal positions that had nothing to do with
medicine.

i always though that wasa strange arguement. imho the dead are dead
whether i benifit from it or not. on the other hand if the chances of
my recovery are greater because of the unwilling sacrifice of those
lives and i do not take advantage of it, isn't that like saying the
pain and suffering was for nothing? certainly those nazi researches
should not get credit or compensation for what was done. but the
research is still valid. why not have a fund that is paid into when
ever the research is used or sold. the funds could then be used for
educating jews and other nazi victoms descendents.

somewhat like all the flap over wooy harelson saying that he was
ashamed to be an american or some such drivel. I wouldn't want his
opinion about what sandwich to buy. why be concerned what his
politics are? being an actor should not make a person something
special. the truely great ones are best at being what they are not.

Although I saw Thoughtcrimes on TV the other night and was very
