Compulsive Eating |
Dear readers,
A very close friend of mine has been having trouble with compulsive eating.
According to Dan, he usually does not have the kind of cravings during the day,
but he has trouble stopping eating if he shall start a meal. Can anyone give
him any suggestions? At 345 pounds, he is considered morbidly obese.

Have him start recording in a journal everything he eats - www.fitday.com is
a good site. Also check out OA, overeater's anonymous for people who have
problems with compulsive overeating. Would also recommend seeing a
nutritionist.
If he has ocd, an antidepressant might also be needed.

Sounds like a case of unwillfull suicide. Ask him if he wants to
die. If he says yes, you have your answer. If he says no, then
roll on the will to live.

Hi again. So he tells me he usually compulsively eats cereal and rice.
According to him, he feels his mouth active and has the need to chew and chew,
which is quite unusual. At least he had the mind to choose low-calorie foods.
The problem is not the eating, but once he eats he has trouble stopping. For
example, he has successfully tried to fast for one or two days with some
success on slowing the weight gain.

If he's compulsively shoving junk food into his mouth, try and get him
into shoving healthier food and drinking lots of water to keep the
metabolism up. If he says no to that, tell him to first eat a required
amount of fruit and vegetables and water before he starts to dig in on
the good stuff. This may make him fuller by eating and drinking the
water before hand so he wont eat as much junk.

fasting is the worst thing you can do. first it slows down the
metabolism so when you start eating again you end up gaining back all
the weight from before by just a simple meal. but chances are if he
fasts he's going to have a big meal at the end where he'll end out
gaining alot of weight.
