Nah. He's just looking to stir up a little controversy, for the fun of it,
to get the group going, you know, something to do and talk about.
At least that's my interpretation of it. If he really thinks there's
something going, than he's way off.
Although, WB is fun to talk to, seems like a nice enough guy, grew up in the
area where I live, likes computers... So we chave couple things in common,
that gives us some stuff to talk about.

Well there was that one time,,,sssshhhhhhhh.
Funny you use the term "computers". I actually hate being told that :-)
When I meet my dad and he introduces me to people he always says "my son
works on computers". And of course the other middle age people around
are thinking I am sure "WOW you can install Windows". Then they proceed
to bug me about why their margins are off in Word or something. One day
I want my dad to say "my son works on high-performance inter-site
clusters utilizing remote san mirrors. Well today he is". Ok it is a had
to be there joke!

Funny you use the term "computers". I actually hate being told that :-)

I have an aquaintance who teaches Windows Internals. Whenever he
is asked advice on what to buy, he always tells them "Buy a Mac."
(Paul Harvey Voice) The rest of the story: When asked why, he
responds: "Because I don't work on Macs."

Timely? How goes the consulting work today?

Well... Fixing some PCs over the weekend. I do just about everything
except draw pictures and play with graphics. I have a friend with a
graphic arts degree that I push that work to.
Work has been a bit slow, but picking up as of late. It's amazing,
but for the past 12 years I've been getting work without advertising
much at all.
That's the NEXT step, when the current work is done. Broaden the
horizons, push the envelope a little more.
And you?

Tracy Barber

I used to consult for a company off hours and it really became a hassle.
I was getting calls at work, emails, etc. I did not have the heart to
quit because I felt sorry for the admins--they just really did not have
a clue. So I upped my rate to $150/hour from $100 thinking I would price
myself out and get "fired". That did not work. Then I upped it to
$200/hour and that did not work. Finally I just said ***** it and quit. I
have never done any consulting after that. The problem is or was for me
anyway a line was never drawn. You change one thing on one damn system
and you start getting calls for crazy ***** like their phones werent
working or their toilets are out of order. Forget it!

Nah. He's just looking to stir up a little controversy, for the fun of it,
to get the group going, you know, something to do and talk about.
At least that's my interpretation of it. If he really thinks there's

Although, WB is fun to talk to, seems like a nice enough guy, grew up in the

Funny you use the term "computers". I actually hate being told that :-)
When I meet my dad and he introduces me to people he always says "my son
works on computers". And of course the other middle age people around
are thinking I am sure "WOW you can install Windows". Then they proceed
to bug me about why their margins are off in Word or something. One day
I want my dad to say "my son works on high-performance inter-site
clusters utilizing remote san mirrors. Well today he is". Ok it is a had
to be there joke!

And timely too!

Tracy Barber

And you?

I used to consult for a company off hours and it really became a hassle.
I was getting calls at work, emails, etc. I did not have the heart to

oh. really? well, thanks for setting me straight kitty. :)

no prob.
He came in couple of weeks ago. He's one of those intense

personalities

that

post a lot.
There's several of us here.

And % thinks you and he have a thing going????

Nah. He's just looking to stir up a little controversy, for the

fun of it,

to get the group going, you know, something to do and talk

about.

At least that's my interpretation of it. If he really thinks

there's

something going, than he's way off.
Although, WB is fun to talk to, seems like a nice enough guy,

grew up in the

area where I live, likes computers... So we chave couple things

in common,

that gives us some stuff to talk about.

(((((( Everyone there is nothing between WB and DK ))))))

{ denial ? } :^P

Well there was that one time,,,sssshhhhhhhh.

Heh!

Funny you use the term "computers". I actually hate being told

that :-)

When I meet my dad and he introduces me to people he always says

"my son

works on computers". And of course the other middle age people

around

are thinking I am sure "WOW you can install Windows". Then they

proceed

to bug me about why their margins are off in Word or something.

One day

I want my dad to say "my son works on high-performance inter-site
clusters utilizing remote san mirrors. Well today he is". Ok it

is a had

to be there joke!

And timely too!

Tracy Barber

Timely? How goes the consulting work today?

Well... Fixing some PCs over the weekend. I do just about

everything

except draw pictures and play with graphics.

I used to consult for a company off hours and it really became a

hassle.

I was getting calls at work, emails, etc. I did not have the heart to
quit because I felt sorry for the admins--they just really did not

have

a clue. So I upped my rate to $150/hour from $100 thinking I would

price

myself out and get "fired". That did not work. Then I upped it to
$200/hour and that did not work. Finally I just said ***** it and

quit. I

have never done any consulting after that. The problem is or was for

me

anyway a line was never drawn. You change one thing on one damn

system

and you start getting calls for crazy ***** like their phones werent
working or their toilets are out of order. Forget it!

I haven't gone that high in the pay dept. yet... I get enough to keep
me out of debt, overall and have some fun. Maybe someday I'll get
wiser and up my rates considerably - for programming anyway. :^)

Tracy Barber

Yeah dont underestimate your worth!

I need to get completely out of non-profit organizations. I will
market myself to some contracting companies I used to do work for.

Tracy Barber

Are you going to incorporate yourself? For tax and liability purposes?
Subchapter S perhaps?

Nahhh... Incorporation costs too much. If anything, legalized my
DBA. Adirondack-PC. I don't know how much I'd save doing anything
else... Any ideas?

Tracy Barber

not only that but it will wreck your balls

When I was thinking about it wasnt too much. But I cannot remember
exactly what I was going to do. I think it all depends on how much cash
you expext to pull in.
