i tho't credit card companies would work with you!!! aarrrgghh....
i just called my credit card co to see if they'd let me just pay the
interest this month in order to keep our account current at least, and they
said that's not an option. well, there's no freakin way i can pay the whole
bill this time. NONE!!!! i completely lost it on the phone just now just
talkig to a complete stranger. when she said there was nothing they could
do for me, i totally fell apart. then she says she'll switch me over to
someone else who i could at least "ask" for help, and in the process, she
disconnected me. god, i hate making thse phonecalls. and now we'll be
stuck with more late fees and they'll probably dramatically increase our
interest rate because this is the 2nd month in a row that the payment has
been late. i tho't these ppl would work with you!!! wouldn't they rather
we paid SOMETHING instead of NOTHING? no, i guess they just want all their
damn late fees. and to jack up my interest rate.
oh, i can't do this anymore!!!!!!! I HATE THIS!!!!!!!!!!
i can totally understand why ppl kill themselves over financial burdens...i
mean TOTALLY understand. the stress is
unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i can not pick up that stupid phone again and call them back. i waited on
hold for 20 min just to be told that they really don't give a crap about our
situation, and can i please just pay them over the phone right this
minute....oh you can't pay? well, that sure sux for you!!!! here...let me
freakin disconnect you while you are bawling on the phone so i can get back
to eating my donut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a LOUSY credit issuer. Most of them _will_ work with you for
a while, and yes, they'd rather have a partial payment than none at
all. Get a balance transfer to another card as soon as you can.

I think you need a good credit rating to get a balance transfer to another
card, and there is no guarantee that the other card would be more lenient
on late payments.

Go to one of those credit assistance places they're funded *by* the
credit card companies themselves. They're the ones who are going to be
able to push through something like you just paying back the balance or
just paying the interest. It's to their benefit anyway. If you go the
bankruptcy route they just have to write it all off.
I filed for bankruptcy once, but I didn't own anything at the time. My
biggest posession was a car and it was worth less than $5k (and
technically the title was under someone else's name too...) so the only
thing that was legally required to be listed as an "asset" on my
bankruptcy filing was my cat.
You have to make sure that there haven't been any recent credit card
activity. When I filed if you had done anything in the previous 90 days,
that wouldn't be dismissed - but I had all my cards at the max anyway
for much longer than 90 days.
They eventually did start calling ME, and were offering to drop
interest/only pay principal.
The law has changed a lot since, and if you have real assets then it's
much different. But calling around to the consumer credit counseling
agencies is a good and FREE start.

I agree that the consumer credit counseling agencies are a good place to
start.
Regarding your husband: It's your life, but in my humble opinion, you need
to resolve your issues with him. If he doesn't want to look for a job, then
your options would seem to be to kick him out (then you'd have one less
person to support) and/or work more yourself.
