Object: Dangerous side effects of SSRI's
There seems to be many people asking about the side effects of SSRI's,
mainly relating to aggression, sexual dysfunction, memory problems, and
nevous tics.
Ive given a link to a webpage which explains how these are all common
effects of SSRI's and how SSRI's are more dangerous than most people
realize.

I pretty much immediately suspect that anybody who posts this kind of
***** to depression-related groups is a Scientologist or an "herbal
remedies" salesman, or both.

I'm glad they work for you. It's too bad they are over-prescribed and can
have devastating side effects when mis-prescribed. Talk about practicing
medicine...

Really?
I suspect anyone posting the hyperbole and propaganda about SSRI's which you
do is either ignorant, in denial, has a more serious psychiatric illness
then depression, or is shilling for big drugz.

So do I, which is why I check them out. I don't say so unless I can show
that they are. False accusations are as bad as false claims.

are you seriously suggesting that Professor McHugh"s concerns can be
speciously dismissed on the basis of your obsession with Scientology?
" In its recent infatuation with symptomatic, push-button remedies,
psychiatry has lost its way not only intellectually but spiritually
and morally. Even when it is not actually doing damage to the people
it is supposed to help,it is encouraging among doctors and patients
alike the fraudulent and dangerous fantasy that life's every passing
'symptom' can be clinically diagnosed and, once diagnosed, alleviated
if not eliminated by pharmacological intervention."

I don't know what "speciously dismissed" means, but in case you meant
"summarily dismissed", the answer is no. It should definitely be considered,
as the Scientologists have an unfounded and irrational hatred of psychiatry.
If I'm obsessed with Scientology, it's because they are obsessed with trying
to eliminate the very therapies that have saved my life. If I'm obsessed, I
think it's a rational obsession. Their obsession with eliminating psychiatry
mearly because it disagrees with their "religion" isn't rational, it's evil.

This leads me to dismiss him, even if he didn't have ties to Scientology.

There is truth in more than one path---SSRI's have risks and they often have
side-effects. Herbal concoctions, though "natural," are still
pharmocological agents designed to affect chemical balance in the brain, and
they also have risks and side-effects. However, their risks must be
tempered and balanced with the knowledge that untreated, severe depression
leads to death on the part of the patient.
