Depressed about being overweight |
I'm on a special (low-carb) diet that just doesn't seem to be working.
That got me depressed enough to start using certain drugs again, and
now the cycle has come full circle. Anybody with suggestions to get
me out of this rut?

I'm reading a book at the moment which addresses weight loss in relation to
depression. Might be worth a look - it's called "beyond prozac", but
Michael J Norden, MD. It all makes total sense to me.
Another book I've been reading is called "fat is a feminist isue", but susie
orbach. The gist of it seems to be that if you start to accept yourself the
way you are, you won't obsess about food so much, and it will come off
without any effort. Haven't got very far into it yet, but it looks
promising!
As for getting out of the rut, perhaps you need a slap in the face. Break
yourself out of your every day habits. Wake up at a different time, eat
completely different foods, change everything! Next time you go do do one
of your bad habits, 'slap yourself in the face'. For example, a simple
behaviour modification technique is putting a rubber band around your wrist.
When you go to eat something you know you shouldn't, snap the rubber band to
give yourself a little shock. That's a simplified version of it anyway.
Some people throw a glass of cold water on their face...hehe. The point is
to start associating pain (not necessarily physical) with the things you are
trying to change.

Meth will shed those pounds away faster than almost anything and cure
you
of your depression (at least while you're high).
Only down side is, it makes you pick at your face and you lose calcium
very quickly.
So taking vitamins is very important.

I've tried. The 12-step program couldn't stop my crack addiction and

Make a decision to get out of the rut, and then do it.
What are your details: what diet, how much do you weigh, how active are you,
how tall are you, are you following the diet correctly?
Atkins diet, last time the scale didn't break I was at 346lbs, I sit
on my butt all day because I'm a telemarketer, and then I sit at home
working on my web site which I'm hoping will make me financially
independent ( www.atjfaq.com ), I'm 6' 1", and I am trying to follow
the diet correctly, though I'll occasionally give in and eat the bun
on my half-pound cheeseburgers (which I smother with ketchup, mustard,
and mayo)

Go with low fat, not low carb. Low carb is BS. It just means more skinny
people will be having heart attacks.
As long as you're abusing drugs, the crystal meth diet plan can do wonders.
"cyclical pattern" studies have shown significant weight loss using a

yeah, but the drug I abuse is pretty bad. I tried 12-step, but they
couldn't get rid of my crack addiction. Low fat is hard for me
because I really am addicted to cheeseburgers with lots of mayo (and
ketchup, mustard) Low carb might work because i've lost like three or
four pounds in the past few months. I'm just sick of having to lift
up my stomach to pee.

I assume you are refering to meth.. which will do you far more harm than
good. You may lose weight rapidly, but when you stop using (if you can
handle the intense depression and suicidal thoughts) you will gain back even
more pounds than you lost.
I'm not sure if that's possible
My husband used meth for a diet aid, and he did
lose weight for a while.. but the day he took his life after binging for
over two months, he was the biggest he had ever been in his life. I now
have a fatherless child because of meth...!!!

If I lose weight rapidly, how would I gain it back? Meth is starting
to sound like a good thing.

because they won't take your funny money fag boy?
The minister was preoccupied with thoughts of how he was going to, after the
worship service, ask the congregation to come up with more money than they
were
expecting for repairs to the church
building. Therefore, he was annoyed to find that the regular organist was
sick
and a substitute had been brought in at the last minute. The substitute
wanted
to know what to play.
"Here's a copy of the service," he said impatiently. "But you'll have to
think
of something to play after I make the announcement about the finances."
During the service, the minister paused and said, "Brothers and Sisters, we
are
in great difficulty; the roof repairs cost twice as much as we expected, and
we
need $4,000 more. Any of you who can pledge $100 or more, please stand up."
At that moment, the substitute organist played "The Star-Spangled Banner."
And that is how the substitute became the regular organist!

Here's what has been working for me: exercise. Yup, that old stand-by. Helps
stabilize my moods, too. And it's cheap.
I can barely get out of my chair to walk to the bathroom, but maybe I
could walk faster and do a couple of laps around the living room. I
would go outside, but I'm in South Africa and would be in danger of
being shot at. The only time I chance it is when I'm going to work or
to the restaurant for a cheeseburger.
