Object: Diagnosis help
I'm having symptoms that I'm having a hard time defining, which makes
it difficult to find any support groups on the web. I'm hoping someone
can offer some insight. I feel they are part of overall depression and
also related to my obiesity but they seem to manifest themselves in a
very particular way:
symptoms
1. Very reluctant to exert myself
2. Taking naps for pleasure
3. Taking naps because I have a fear of becoming tired later in the
day (i work second shift)
4. Reluctant to go out and do simple things I used to enjoy: walks,
yard work, walking the dog
5. Fear of exhaustion
6. Although I've always enjoyed longing in the bed, not like to have
my head completely covered and long for a cacoon sort of experience
7. find comfort in being in small, isolated space, such as a the nap
cubicles at the YMCA
8. I don't feel I'm scared of open spaces; i love to go walk around in
Wal-Mart for an hour; it's the idea of going, the effort it will take
to go.
9. Reluctant to make effort to do basic things: hygiene, dishes, etc.
This seems to have happened over a period of time and i've just become
aware that there seems to be a group of related symptoms.
Am taking 10 mg lexapro for anxiety. was taking 350 welbutrin xl to
help with energy level; no taking 400mg provigil instead, which does
seem to help somewhat.

sounds a lot like some of the symptoms i get with depression.
i have little or no energy, then when meds gave me that needed
energy, i still had no sense of ambition to get me through
basic activities. instead, i tended to do nothing, but with
more energy.
you might talk to your doctor about increasing your lexapro
dosage to see what happens. provigil has been shown to help
with some types of depression, so it makes sense that you feel
somewhat better with it.
in the meantime, try to 'fake it 'til you make it'. once
inertia sets in, it gets harder and harder to break it. easier
said than done, i know, but maybe try making simple goals for
yourself, then treat yourself for having accomplished them.
good luck, and keep us posted.
