Yeah. Then I grew up, took responsibility for my own life, and let

If it was a matter of letting it go, we wouldn't need shrinks or mental
health professionals.

See? It's not a matter of what I want to do. I also want to let it go, but
my wounds will not follow suit just on account of it. A damaged self needs
mending like all things damaged, not an act of will saying: "I just let it
go" and it goes. If your will can be so powerful as to have mended you
inside, I congratulate you.

Either you're assuming a lot or I wasn't clear. When I said "Took
responsibility for my own life and let it go" I did not describe how I had
done that. I certainly didn't say it was an act of sheer will that simply
required me to say "I just let it go" and it goes. It took a breakdown,
almost 11 years of therapy, tough choices, and hard decisions to get where
I am today. I also think I'm lucky and blessed. My capacity for
forgiveness seems to know no bounds. I don't understand
why or how, I just know I'm fortunate to have it, because in the end I am
the one who was liberated from an ugly past.

Then I am mistaken. Still, all that complex process you underwent can hardly
be described as "just letting go". But that is how I think which doesn't
mean you are wrong. I get you now, and I appreciate you did your homework.

Removing the cause doesn't stop the momentum. Just because someone 'lets
go', or recognises what was a problem and deals with it, it doesn't mean
they get better. It just means they have to deal with the now, rather
than the past.

I disagree with this. If you remove the cause, you are cured at least from
the problems that cause gives you, there can be a myriad causes. But letting
it go is not always removing the cause. You can let go an incident of your
daily life, a frustration or some sort of discomfort, but you cannot let go
a wound. A wound needs healing and not just an act of will. If you cut your
arm you cannot let go the wound, you have to wait until your body repairs
itself, which usually takes some time according to the degree of the damage.
It's the same wit the wounds our parents inflict on us.
Just because someone

'lets go', or recognises what was a problem and deals with it, it
doesn't mean they get better. It just means they have to deal with
the now, rather than the past.

I tend to agree with this if you mean keeping the wounds inside and not
bothering to look back to deal with the past but rather towards the future.

Well, I think it's just too blatant, there's not enough
subtlety... The album "The wall" is what really got me to become a
huge, huge Pink Floyd fan..( I listened to them almost every day from
the age of 16 on until Yes replaced them as my favorite group. now I
like a wide variety of music)... however, I gradually grew to prefer
earlier Pink Floyd music... The movie version of "the wall", even more
so then the album just seems to hit you over the head with a
sledgehammer...
