does anyone knoe how long effexor withdrawal symptoms last for? |
please please please....has anyone been on effexor around the 3 year
period and gotten off sucessfully and have any idea how long until the
horrible withdrawal symptoms finally stop?? even more so, i am
wondering if i will ever have intrest in sex again. so is my fiance. i
hav read some forums on here, however they are out-dated and i would
really appericiate anyone who would take the time to throw me back some
info. fortunately, i am only have physical withdrawals...unless you
call the irritability, overreaction to situations and crying outbursts
emotional... however by emotional, i would think mopre along the lines
of the actul depression and anxiety coming back in full force. at the
time i finally got down to 75mg of effexor xr, i then took another 3
months to get completely weened of the medication. it has interrupted
my work, social, and love life.
any input?? oh-- and i have been effexor free for 9 days now.( i am
counting the days like im going to get a 30 day chip or something from
a self help group).
thanks so much

I tried to go off "cold-turkey" a couple months ago, not a good idea.
My physical withdrawal symptoms appeared after about 4 days and I went
back onto Effexor on day 6 (primarily brain zips or split second
freezes were my biggest symptom, and fatigue).
My pdoc said the weening process could take between 6 months and a
year done properly (with daily mood and symptom monitoring with this
numbering system he suggested)...not good news for the sex-drive
problem you mention...remember when you had to hold back the orgasm,
now it's like you pray for it before your heart explodes from the
effort.

Years back I went cold turkey off of Effexor. I had only been on it for
about six months, but it took about two months for the withdrawal effects
to wear off. I described it as my consciousness feeling like my body wasn't
on straight. Kind of like the way your foot feels in your shoe when your
sock is on crooked. It was miserable. But I didn't want to go back on the
stuff and wean off.
My pdoc said the weening process could take between 6 months and a

I quit Effexor mostly for the outbursts of irritability and anger. But the
sexual sides effects weren't bearable either.
I just tried Cymbalta since my pdoc said the lithium and klonopin wasn't
helping with the depression. I had my reservations, but I didn't want to
reject it out of hand. It's new, so I tried it. No help with the
depression, but within two weeks orgasms were impossible.
In the past I used to try and go for it regardless. Even though I was
sweating like I had just set foot on Mercury, all my muscles were cramping,
and my heart was beating so hard my ribs were vibrating, I'd keep going.
Maybe it's a guy thing - we'll risk death to climax.
I took a more accepting approach this time and didn't work to the point of
frustration. Luckily I have a lovely and honest wife. So I just relaxed and
concentrated on her. I can tell by her sounds and expressions when she is
satisfied. I still ask, since she can often have two or three orgasms. I
just make sure to quit before I begin to feel like it might work, when I
know damn well it won't.
So my wife is satisfied, and I'm not frustrated. I'm not happy about it,
but at least I'm not angry.
Last time Buddha Head seemed happy also. As quiet as we tried to be -
thinking he was asleep - we looked over and there he was, with the crib
bumper lifted up, smiling at us.
I used to feel like an exhibitionist when the cats jumped on the bed and
stared at us. I can't wait to get to the new apartment.
