Object: doing telephone surveys...
I did a telephone survey with someone last night who was VERY
conservative... I mean she would make Archie Bunker seem like a
liberal... In a way, she seemed like an interesting "character", she
almost seemed a little cartoonish, like a parody of a very religious,
far right wing conservative person, with little apprent(to me anyway)
subtlety or nuance in her views... people probably think that about my
views as well, I guess... I was thinking, I'd hate to know how she
would feel about my views... It kind of shoook me up a little to talk
with her, it reminded me a man I did surveys with years ago, who was
also very extreme in his views... I kind of wonder though what she is
like in person... how did she get to thinking this way? I'm sure there
ARE a lot of people with her views, but I would think that most people
are more in the middle, not so extreme and adament about their
views... what happened to moderation? hopefully, the great majority
are more moderate... I guess, to a large extent, our views are also
shaped by so many factors... our personality, our temperament, our
family, where we live, our experiances, countless factors... I guess
we probably need all people, with all views... the thing about
surveys, I guess, is that like on the internet, you only get brief
glimpses of the way people are... maybe the woman, and the man I
talked with years ago are more subtle and moderate in their personal
lives, or maybe not... there's really no way to know for sure from
talking with someone over the phone...
