A ruggedized laptop is REALLY expensive, just be careful I say.

joe says to look at fujitsu's.they bought a couple at the shop
for students and professors to use with projectors, and have had
no trouble with them. i'm sure they're not treated excessively
delicately, either.

Good for you then if you're gonna stay x86. All the Dells I've worked on
lately are just horrendous machines, Compaq plays games with their hidden
restore partition and never offers drivers...can't say as I've been around a
Gateway lately but generally they've been fairly nice.
I'd always suggest the extended warranty on a laptop too, they're just so
friggin delicate and replacement part costs are horrendous. If the keyboard
on your desktop breaks/takes a bath in cola, big deal you just buy a new
one. A laptop on the other hand you can spend $100+ just for the cheap
little keyboard. We won't go into what it takes to clean your beverage out
of the innards....
