Yes, when the apple juice was found to be contaminated, the U.S. went
bonkers and started pasteurizing everything.
Now it's damn hard to find unpasteurized apple cider. And you can't
let cider get "hard" if you kill all the bugs in it... I like my
cider with some bite to it.
I hate those knee-jerk reactions. Yes, some bugs are bad, but some
are good for you!
If people were more careful about washing their hands,if farmers were
more careful with their manure management plans, if slaughterhouses
were more careful in their cleaning practices, we wouldn't need to be
so mean to our food.
Hrrrmph.
