Elegy and Cat lover's HELP |
Moe and Rudy were groomed yesterday also were treated w/advantage and
my place was bug bombed...looks like it;s finally working phew that
part is great...we do see some fleas but they aren't active & on there
last legs easy to tell
the very big problem is Moe Rudy are trying to tear each other apart
ever since they were groomed....last night for abt a 1/2 hour they did
an uneasy truce, each staying in own end of my small apartment...but
then they started up again they tear at each other, teeth barred claws
and screeching at the top of their lungs..they have broken 2 lamps and
torn the curtains down...never have done this
yes they have there little tifts but never was it serious...SPCA (they
did the grooming) told me yesterday that they are traumatized from the
grooming and they smell different....they were long hairs now only
have hair on their legs, tail and head area...they had so many hard
lumps of hair it was only thing they could do
SPCA said to use a squirt gun w/vinger in it and use it every time
they go at each other
any other ideas?? I don't what to do...and I have chronic insonmia
having either Moe & Rudy sleep with me means much less sleep
I'm at my wits end

each probably thinks the other is a brand new cat and needs to be broken in.
they'll wind down the mutual breaking in process when they're good and
ready, because that's how cats do things.

are you able to separate them in different parts of the apartment for
a few days until they calm down and the weird smells wear off? that's
probably what i'd do, and then let them start getting back together
with squirt gun in hand and you there to supervise.
i hope they get over their drama quickly!

Rudy even growled at me! that's never happened
yes I'm playing revolving room as in my bdrm...I take turns which ones
goes in...also using the cat carrier for shorter amount of
times...that way sniffing can be done with no harm...then I swicth the
cat on that do, they pick up each other's scent
at best longest time has no more than 20 min they have a very uneasy
truce..with the use of a super soaker that leaks (can't find a new
one) Vet suggested putting just a couple drops of amnonia (spelling
in it)
what do you think abt the tuna fish idea Tera had? she did say it was
hearsay and she couldn't vouch for it
To me and my daughter they both smell normal today
my 2 yr old grandduaghter is her and she aggravtes the sitution, the
loud noises really irrate them

The aquirt gun's a good idea, though I'd start with water and
only switch to vinegar if water doesn't work. Vinegar will
keep them smelling strange, but might be necessary if they're
fighting so badly. A clean spray bottle works well as a
squirter, too, so long as it didn't have anything toxic in it.
I think they'll calm down against each other after a couple of
days, once they've groomed themselves enough to have their old
scents back. Hopefully, then they'll start to recognize each
other again. The trauma from being shaved can last longer,
since they now have bare skin in places where they used to
have fur. Be sure to pet them very gently.
Good luck with it.

thanks....they are both super affectionate now and want to be all over
anybody that's here..that is my daughter & granddaughter...
I was very leery of petting them and stuck to straching their chins
but I very lighting started petting and they love it...SPCA did do a
good job they did leave a light layer of fur it's not down to their
skin, thankfully...it's the softest think I ever felt and love being
petted....both of now want non stop affection...
drinking my tea ...letting Rudy eat and then it's time for Moe to be
let out with my super soaker in hand....they did reconize by it sight
that might help...I had to use it by the door they'd try to sneak out
and if your pet gets it's grounds for eviction couldn't take
chance...that's why I used the super soaker on them I did try I
regular squirt gun first didn't bother them at all
odd thing the book that the SPCA put out says not to use a squirt as
it's only a temp. fix and when you're gone or out of site it's useless
but it this case I have to
thanks again Lisa and your idea abt first going without the vingar
makes since
damn I dread this

At the cat shelter where I did volunteer work, they tried this once:
Two cats fighting; the volunteer opened a tin of tuna fish and smeared the fishy
smelling liquid all over both cats, then put them into the same room. They
licked one another down, and became the best of friends.
I can't vouch for this, it's only hearsay evidence, but it might work.
