Object: Emotions, or rather a lack thereof
Greetings all, I'm new to this group.
I don't have a lot of problems in my life - my family's together, I'm
doing well (I hope) in school, etc. - but I've had a few persistent
ones. (And they're not unrelated.)
For a little over a year, I have felt little or no emotion. To others,
I appear normal, if a little reticent. If I'm around people who are
experiencing a lot of emotion, I may show emotion. (Example: at my
aunt's funeral in September, people were upset, and water fell out of
my eyes ;) but I didn't feel anything. It's not that I was numb...
there was no change from other times. And there's been no change
since.)
I have possible explanations, but they are implausible, if not silly.
Thanks to all who can give advice.
Cheers,
Eoin

It is possible to have nothing wrong with your life and still have a
problem. Particularly in the area of mental illness where a lot of what
happens to us does not make sense or happens to us despite our situation.
What you're describing could be caused by any number of psychological or
personality disorders. I would recommend you seek medical help for this.
Ask your family doctor to rule out a physical problem and should it turn out
to be psychological, have him or her, or your local mental health center, or
your local hospital give you a referral to a mental health professional and
have yourself assessed.
I found it difficult to gauge from your post just how upset you are about
the problem, beyond the obvious in coming here to ask for advice. Has your
lack of emotion become debilitating? Is it interfering in your life?
Making relationships with people difficult if not impossible? If so then go
the medical route. A treatment of medication or therapy or both can help
improve the quality of your life.
And stick around. You are in the right place if you need someone to listen.
Good luck.

I don't have much in the way of advice, just a "hello".
