"The counter-culture package stresses the need for the subversion of
aspects of paramount reality and for some form of identity
transformation. So paramount reality is attacked by the conflation of
certain categories through which the world is routinely
apprehended,The taken-for-granted relationship between past,present
and future is underminded by the determined emphasis upon the
irrelevance of the past and future, and a glorififcation of the
present-the here and now experiance.Time itself is demoted from it's
central place as an organizing principle within conciousness;watches
and clocks are dispenced with, and the routine divisions of night and
day, morning and afternoon are ignored.Standard divisions between
work, hobbies and leisure are denied.'work is done only for fun,as a
past time, obsession, hobby or art form and thus is not work in the
accepted sense.'
The scripted nature of everyday experiance is resisted by an
emphasis upon naturalness and spontanaeity, and fantasy is promoted by
resort to the occult, psychedelics, esoteric eastern religion, folk
magic, and a general hostility to rationality. An attempt is made to
construct a reality which is script-free,pre-categorical and fantasy
saturated. It is an attemptb to revert to the conciousness of the
child-the pure world of play,to create an 'irresistable, fun
posessed,play powered counter culture'."
