How could it be the end of the world if we're still here? You know, "I
think, therefore, I am", that whole thing.

it's more to do with recognising that things are going to get extremely

I was just listening to Alan Watts talk about this topic, from a
lecture he gave during from the late 60's or early 70's... He said that
in an insecure, rugged individualist society such as the U.S., there is
always much more conformity then there is in a secure society, we
expect everyone to look the same, act the same etc... and we look at
everyone as equal, but equal in the sense of no one being worthy, and
that this quickly leads to fascism...

Maybe, but I don't see one of those working without oppression either.

well, no, not quite. it's neighbours were taking all of its resources
and it had to do something. they found it hard because they were the
only ones working on improvements and advances in comparison to its
neighbours.
not endorsing the route it took, but, well, that's the bit that went wrong.

dear Alvin, someone can have a good standard of living on $50,000 a year. i
think people are just greedy and want to be snobs. this is why we live in a
capitalist country.

Well, it's about making the high-earners recognise that they are NOT
doing the jobs of nurses, firemen and teachers who get paid a tenth of
what they get.... handling the stress of prestige and power is not the
stress of homelesses, or nursing, or saving lives....

Nurses and firemen get paid what the market will bear. Notice that now
there is a shortage of nurses, the wages have gone way up. As for firemen,
many would do it for no pay at all. Many do, in the hundreds of volunteer
FD's across the country. Not all wages are in the form of cash.
Teacher's? Judging by how American students are performing, I'd say
teacher's are paid way too much.
