Stevie Ray Vaughn
Eric Clapton
Eddie Van Halen
Eric Johnson
For one genre anyway. I like all genre's so it's really hard for me to pick
favorites but for guitar players those have to be my favorite four.

here i go - trust the man with the cat
to bring up one of my fave raves
i started listening to hard rock bands that most
of us oldies with good taste (like %) were into
(Deep Purple, Led, Sabbath, Uriah Heep,
Procol Harem, Yes, Iron Butterfly, etc etc)
then there was - Nick Drake (a well kept secret),
King Crimson, Peter Gabriel plus Steve Hackett
(both came out of Genesis) and some of the
early Genesis material. Oh, and Gong plus
Steve Hillage who was one of their guitarist
also (the Crazy world of..) Arthor Brown,
Captain Beefheart, Return to Forever (and
associated bands like Mahavishnii Orchestra)
Jefferson Airplane and even some Moody Blues
absence of new discoveries around mid 70's
with the exception of the Velvet Undeground
then came the early 'new wave' stuff like Cure,
Television (Tom Verlaine), Kraftwerk, Ultravox,
'Orchestral Manaevours in the Dark' etc etc
and then there was Joy Division > New Order.
Still is actually!! They just brought out a
new album which sounds ok. (not bad for
a band that's been around 30 odd years)
then there are the Oz bands of yester year like
Go-Betweens, the Triffids, Birthday Party and
Laughing Clowns but i don't suppose they'd
be known much in the USA
of recent stuff Cold Play, some Radio Head and
techno bands like Massive Attack and Portishead
Hmm.
I didn't mention Bob.
OK
And Bob
And Joni
And ..
FULL STOP

I like most music, but I'm gonna be brave and say 'Prince' is my fave,
He's just got so many styles, I've even got a tatoo of his 'symbol'
name. You prolly think I'm dead sad now, but that's me!!! ;)

Actually that's cool Mike, I was gonna have a purple rain drop tattooed on
my shoulder when I was 18 but changed it to a heart with my name in it. I
love Prince as an artist he's got more talent in his 5'2" frame then a lot
of people do in their pinkys. It doesn't hurt that he's from my home state
and lived probably 30 miles from me too.

Lived, grew up, spent 35 years near him, but I live in Florida now and lived
in Texas for four years. I met him once at his club called the Glam Slam in
Minneapolis. He's so damn small! Seriously 5'2" but he always worse heels
and I know he had to weight about 120#. He's very tiny. Don't have to be
jealous anymore hehe.

You tell me you've been in his Glam Slam club and you've met him and
expect me not to be even more jealous? I'm in the UK, and I once managed
to attend his live 'Diamonds & Pearls' tour. My fear of crowds meant
that I had to sit and watch the concert from the opposite end of the
football stadium, (everyone else had squeezed themself into the other
half, which was quite a miracle as it was sold out) that's the closest I
ever got.
I better shut up now, I'm sounding obsessive and I'm not, I like loads
of other bands, artists etc, I'd probably list George Michael as my 2nd
favourite artist, though I wouldn't feel jealous if anyone told me
they'd met him. The Macc Lads also rate high on my list, though I doubt
anyone's heard of them, and I would consider their talent an aquired
taste..

Hey Mike, what about Quo? Are there any Brits who don't like 'em? I know
they are close to finding that 4th chord, but they can still rock out for a
bunch of 'ol geezers.
Hope they get their arses back down under soon...

Don't like them myself, I'm sure I'm not alone. But I admire them for
what they've achieved though, and there's not many bands can claim
they've been written into an episode of Coronation Street (Quo have made
several appearances).
I know what you mean about the chord thing, but then why should they
learn a new chord if all the fans are happy with the 3 they provide ;)

True, you can do an awful lot with 3 chords and a bit of creativity, good
luck to 'em, they've stuck at it for 40 years or so, there's not too many
that can claim that feat.

I've not searched deeper, but finding out further details would be
relatively easy (though maybe illegal), it's hard to be anonymous on the
internet, but my point was is doesn't matter. After all someone living
1,000s of miles away knowing where you live doesn't matter, all your
neighbours know where you live and you come into contact with them every
day... I posted my full address to the internet and had not one bad
comeback from it, I've had problems with my neighbours though in the
past (Including the ones at the now known address of Lake Road in

doesn't matter if your details are available on the internet. If someone

whatever, the risks are pretty low, you are more at risk popping down to

I'm not really concerned who knows where I live, I was just curious if it
was available on line. It would be really hard to track me down. I've
moved more then 30 times since I was 18 years old. I've changed my name
five times and back. I just moved to Florida, and the phone is listed under
an assumed name, though my bill is in the correct name I think. Any way it
would be really difficult to pin point me besides Florida and maybe a city
near by. Oh I also refinanced my home very recently, I'm not even sure if
I'm in public records yet, I changed names between re-finance.
So again, I have had more names, and addresses then some people have nick
names and email addresses, it would be difficult to track me down.

however not impossible, you must exist at your current address on some
computer records, it's quite easy to hack into any company's database,
(phoning that company pretending to be you is the easiest option). Other
options are also available, pretending to be a computer administrator
from that company is one, pretending to be a police officer is another.
You've gotta have balls of steel to do that, but if you get some
guy/girl on the other end of the phone who is new to the job, it's quite
easy to trick them into giving information illegally. When I was younger
and rather carefree, I've done it just to see if I could, In the early
90's I successfully obtained the sort-code and account number of a
famous UK politician's bank account just to see if I could. I never did
anything with it, it was just an experiment to see if I could... It
scared me that I got the info so easily....

I'm not really concerned who knows where I live, I was just curious if it
was available on line. It would be really hard to track me down. I've
moved more then 30 times since I was 18 years old. I've changed my name
five times and back. I just moved to Florida, and the phone is listed
under
an assumed name, though my bill is in the correct name I think. Any way
it
would be really difficult to pin point me besides Florida and maybe a
city
near by. Oh I also refinanced my home very recently, I'm not even sure
if
I'm in public records yet, I changed names between re-finance.

So again, I have had more names, and addresses then some people have nick
names and email addresses, it would be difficult to track me down.

I guess that's why I've never really hid it, if someone wants it bad enough
they're gonna get it anyway. I've never had to hide from anyone really, so
I've never had a reason to try.

I'd hapilly post my own address right here and now to proove the point,
but I share accomadation with someone who's a bit more paranoid than me
and I have to respect their view. My view is that it ultimately doesn't
matter if someone posts your address on usenet. I'm sure the 2 people
who had their personal details posted could confirm this in a couple of
months.. If someone is out to get you, then they will, they don't need a
usenet post to do it..

When you posted about the hurricane with
the pics, there was (some) info there.
Not sure what the degree of difficulty
would be, but I think you may
underestimate how much data, in general,
is out there about everyone for someone
who knows how to connect a few dots.

Oh yeah I know they can pin point the city, but since I moved here, I've
been divorced and refinanced my home under a new name. I never doubted he
couldn't locate the city. All my utilities are under my married name, which
I've never published for anyone anywhere, and my phone isn't in a name
anyone could really find, that was cool about moving here, they let me use
what ever name I wanted on the phone listing. I'm sure someone who is
really good could dig it up, I was curious as to how fast he could do it,
without it costing him money. Though should anyone find my info, please
email it to me, I really don't want it archived in Usenet/Google.

I'm particularly impressed that you got my mobile number, I don't
remember posting that ;)

Bugger! I'll take that back, I've just found the post myself, and I did
post my mobile number! lol
Still, well done on finding the post though ;)

Actually that's cool Mike, I was gonna have a purple rain drop tattooed on
my shoulder when I was 18 but changed it to a heart with my name in it. I
love Prince as an artist he's got more talent in his 5'2" frame then a lot
of people do in their pinkys. It doesn't hurt that he's from my home state
and lived probably 30 miles from me too.

A coupla years ago, I watched a show
about ***** Clark and he was asked which
was the most difficult American
Bandstand interview for him and it was
Prince. I think it was Prince's first
interview ever -- and careerwise, it was
his first Big Break.
They showed the interview clip and
Prince was too freaked out to speak. He
would nod or shake his head or just
stare, deer in the headlights style.
***** ended the painful-to-watch
interview by turning to the camera and
saying (something like) "Musical
geniuses are often very shy about
talking about themselves. But, I promise
you, we'll be hearing more from Prince
through his music."
Very classy way to handle it. imo.

Absolutely classy. I never saw that. I'm gonna google it and see if it's
online. Anyway, from the very very brief moment I met Prince he did seem
very shy. Obviously he's been interviewed many times, and while performing
you'd never know it, but he's definitely a private person.
