Take a "peek" at the stills and you can see Ms. Jackson posing during the
while thing. I just want to know how many times Justin wanted to practice
that move.

"Mishap" my foot! Not that I have ever understood that expression.
Most expressions have meaning obscured by time and/or culture.
At any rate, it was entirely calculated. MTV's press release prior to
the event mentioned about how they would shock us with something we
have never seen before.
Too bad it was not talent. More of a cheap thrill. I suppose that was
all they could muster, considering the half-time show was little more
than another jumble of names singing a mish-mash of songs (many
featuring less-than-innocent lyrics) while gyrating and groping like
last year's show.
I have to agree with my mother's sentiment: "It was just plain
trashy."
But the kids love it!

I remember reading in a book from the 50's(I think it was by
Erickson),how bizarre it was that in a world where there is all kinds
of horrible REAL things happening
daily:war,poverty,distruction,exploitation,hunger,abuse ect...We are
concerned about people using 4 letter words on TV...That certainly
applies to what is going on today...

they put the halftime show on the same type of time delay as CBS is gonna
use for the Grammy's coming up.

Why do they have to have a special half time pop music show anyways? I
heard on
my sports radio station that the length of the Super Bowl half time
is double the time of a regular season's game's half time to
accommodate the special show. The NFL has asked for trouble for years
with its pop music shows and it's not like they haven't been stupid
in the past. Remember Michael Jackson's half time show, I don't know,
10 and something years ago, that started out with Macauly Caulkin (sp)
somehow
and then old Michael grabbed his crotch a million times during his
songs? The
one guy did that, Nelly whoever he is, this year. Plus there were the
stripper
dancers, the lame poncho flag outfit, and there was simulation sex with
Timberlake and Jackson dancing. The
whole show was stupid. It's not like it was any artistic creation, just
performers
going for shocking a large tv audience. Actually, I was expecting
Michael to
pop out at the end for an appearance, that would have been a shocker
too. Anyways,
they rehearsed with all the crotch grabbing, stripper dancers poncho
flag and hump dancing so I'm
assuming the NFL knew about *that* beforehand so what's the big deal
about the
boobflash (that didn't even last for a one-mississippi)? The NFL was
just asking
for it putting on a crappy show that just got a little crappier at the
end. And
for what? To attract the younger demographic audience who wouldn't have
watched the
game otherwise? To hell with them; if it takes some pop show to get them
to watch
the game (did they watch the game?) then I think the NFL disrespects the
football
fans who tuned in just because they wanted to watch the game and have to
sit through
that crap. Jeez!
Anyways, it was a great game. Too bad Carolina's kicker gave New England
the
ball on the 40 with his out of bounds kickoff. I don't know if NE
would've gotten
close enough for the field goal in time if a decent kick gave them 20
more yards to go.
And I can't believe Delhomme started out so bad (1 for 9!) then turned
it around
to be so good. I thought Carolina was doomed and we'd get another blow
out like so
many other Super Bowls.

Yeah, with the commercials as another I guess you're right. With the
crotch
grabbing, the stripper dancers and the U.S. flag pancho, I wonder if
there
would have been an outcry without Janet's breast about the stupidity of
the
show. The NFL is the U.S.'s most popular spectator sport and I suppose
the
half time show adds to their audience. I don't know, I prefer it when
sports
aren't as popular. Baseball doesn't have a half time show but so many
people
have been going to games (the baby boomers?). I first was able to see
Major
League Baseball at spring training games (Arizona) in the early 80s.
Then
the attendence at games wasn't nearly as high as it got to be in the
90s.
It was nice to be able to buy decent seats day of game and not feel like
we were all packed in.
I miss the intimacy sports used to have. I guess I was lucky we also had
the
Cardinals because they certainly aren't one of the most watched teams
and
most games you could stretch out over a bunch of seats in the sun! :-)

I
heard on
my sports radio station that the length of the Super Bowl half time
is double the time of a regular season's game's half time to
accommodate the special show.

And a game that for 5 months has taken 3+ hours to play takes 4+ on that day.
Hard on the players and on the fans of the game (as opposed to 'cultural event'
fans).

The NFL has asked for trouble for years
with its pop music shows and it's not like they haven't been stupid

Jeez is right! I watch every game my team plays and many others, too, including
pre-season. My non-fan friends think it's 'cute', if somewhat odd. But, of
course, they want to watch the Superbowl and many assumed that The Party would
be at my place. As if. I told 'em 'this ain't no party, this ain't no disco,
this ain't no foolin' around.' I can't even imagine trying to watch that game in
the company of non-fans. But I can accept all of the hype and showmanship as
part of the price of my team making it to that level.

Anyways, it was a great game.

Omigawd, wasn't it? To tell ya the truth, I barely noticed any of the halftime
antics. I was stunned by 26 and a half minutes of incredible defense followed by
a 3.5 minute offensive explosion on both sides of the ball. Stunned, I tell ya,
and it only got excruciatingly better.

Too bad Carolina's kicker gave New England

Yeah I guess. :-(
But I think there's something to be said for catering to the true NFL
fans
who just want to watch *the game*! If they're concerned about the
ratings
I think more fans would be inclined to watch the crappy Super Bowl

LOL, New England (with newly drafted Jim Plunkett and Randy Vataha) was
the first
football team I was a fan of when I discovered sports as a kid! My
basketball team
were the Providence Friars (with Marvin Barnes and Earnie DiGregorio).
Anyways it's
too bad Plunkett couldn't be on a winner until the Raider years at the
end. My best
times as a fan were when I lived about a mile from Sun Devil Stadium in
97-98...
Yes I was (I guess I still am too even here in Seattle) a Cardinal fan.
:-(
But the good part was that I could usually pick up a ticket for $5 or
$10 on the walk
to the stadium and sit where ever I wanted unless a team with a lot of
transplants
(like Pittsburgh) was in town. :-)

Anyways, it was a great game.

news and there it was. Now it's being called "Nipplegate." :)

If they wanted to cover it up, they'd call it nippledoor ;))
