feeling dreadful |
I love going out with friends .. but its been 6 years with the same result.
I feel absolutely terrible after coming back home .. why is that? Everytime
is the same .. starts off with a mild headache .. and as the night
progresses, it turns into a full blow migraine. This time, as a precaution,
I popped a couple of painkillers before heading out .. but no effect .. so
4 hours later I've popped in another couple.
It doesn't make any sense. I get extremely depressed and almost always get
headaches at the end of a night out. And I don't eat anything, or drink
alcohol while im out with friends either. Never have.
Anybody else have that problem? I can't explain it .. and slowly its
starting to scare me to the point where the frequency of my night outs with
my friends has dropped to once in a couple of months.

I dont know , but do you always go out in the same car ?
I have heard that the fumes from some new car interiors can cause headaches
, but that is fairly rare .

It can't be cars ... because I've gone out in different cars .. old, and
new.
Most of the time, I wake up knowing that a migraine is coming (migraines
for me are hereditry, both parents) and so I take precaution. But sometimes
it starts even with just the anticipation of going out with friends. Its
really quite bizarre.

Do you take ordinary painkillers, or prescription migraine medication?
The latter is a lot more effective.

I just take advil, or tylenol .. none of the doctors i've ever been too
have been willing to prescibe any painkillers for migraines. They tell me
to try regular each time .. what they don't realise is, that Ive had
migraines since I was 6 years old, and that waiting a couple more weeks
isn't gonna solve anything.
I've learned to live with them though for the most part. I normally take a
couple of pain killers, close every single light .. and keep my eyes shut
for a good 1-2 hours. It helps dull the sensations enough that I survive
the rest of the day and night.

My best friend takes prescription migrane meds , and you are right . DRs
dont want to prescribe them , but some will if pressed . I think they make
her drowsey though .

That's weird. Mrs. dePlume has prescription migraine medicine. It is a
*big* improvement over non-prescription painkillers. Maybe you should
lean on your doc a bit harder. It's crazy to leave patients suffering
when there is no need! (One of my pet peeves is undermedicating pain.)

i guess that's probably it. I did a quick search and found that *some*
individuals can get migraines from smoke .. something to do with blood
vessel constriction just looked it up .. hmmm ... unfortunately, Im a
smoker. Normally, I can keep it down to 5 a day .. but lose track when im
out with friends.
thanx ... u know what .. this has given me yet another reason to try to
quit.

This is a late followup, and I see that you have gotten some
good specific advice from others.
I used to "fog out" totally when going to clubs with a lot
of smoke (second-hand) It would hit very suddenly. I got
so much ridicule about it I stopped seeing those ppl (good
reason to stop, anyway.)

Thats a good idea . My mom used to smoke in the car when I was little , and
it always gave me a headache .
