Just keep active and exersizing. It is the very best way to lose weight.
and eat healthful things that will give you energy rather than zapping it. You
won't really need to even count calories if you do that and the weight will
come off.
My whole life I have felt fat, even though I nevr really have been. Even
when I weighed 70 pounds I felt fat,
Now, my son keeps bringing home these rich dinners from where he works, and
they are weighing me down even though, as of yet, I a am not overweight, (yet).
If I keep eating this way I will be though. It's not how much food its what
kind. Plus the richness of it makes me lethargic. So just keep eating
healthy, and you'll make it.

Do you see the fat as part of you, or is it like a protective layer between
the real you and the outside world, that you have a love/hate relationship
with? That's a big reason for comfort eating, often unknowingly...I've been
there, so has my mother.
Try to love the whole you, and exercise and eat to feel healthy, not to
punish yourself.

interesting thoughts... i don't think i see the fat as a "protective layer".
it is an unwanted part of me. i hate it. i hate the feeling of the excess
fat bouncing up and down when i run. i hate the oversized belly and the fat
under my chin.
when life is stressful and without pleasure, it is so tempting to eat for
comfort.
i do want to exercise and eat to feel healthy, but i think i deserve to be
punished for not having taken care of myself.

Why is that ridiculous? There is nothing wrong with noticing your own
bodily state - though hopefully you won't judge yourself too harshly.
I noticed the same thing recently. I have always been a rather thin
person. 5'11" - 6' if I stand with good posture, and usually 145 - 150 lbs.
I had been that way since highschool. I sometimes made jokes about being
fat by squeezing as much of my belly as I could (the old Special K Pinch an
Inch commercials), or standing with my belly protruding forcefully. I have
usually been a once a day eater for decades - one main meal a day, lots of
soda, and all the candy I felt like eating.
Then, a couple of months ago, I noticed I was 175 lbs. I didn't have to
struggle to pinch an inch anymore. It seemed as if every Klondike bar I
have ever eaten came back to haunt me.
Oddly enough I didn't get too broken up about it. I'm guessing that one of
the new medications I am taking is what caused the sudden change. Even
odder is that I became motivated to do something. I have a weight room in
my apartment building and I have been using it three times a week.
I've been drinking mass gainer shakes (Twinlab Gainers Fuel 2500) to boost
my protein intake. All in all it seems to be working, though not quite as
I expected. I have added 1/2 inch to my biceps and chest and most of my
body has become noticeably more defined. I have noticed heads turning in
the pool room when I walk in all pumped up and sweaty. That really helps
with the motivation!
I've gained another seven pounds - all in muscle. I still have a small
layer of Klondike bars on my mid-section. But if I feel through it, my abs
are growing and firming up. That's just the way it is - you can't build
muscle and lose fat at the same time. First build some muscle, then stop
working out with the weights and go on a low fat diet to chisel out what
you've built. It should become easier since the more muscle mass you have,
the faster your body burns fat. I just went to the doctor last Tuesday and
I am at 16.8% body fat. The normal range for males is 15-20%, but I don't
want to be normal...
I haven't given it anywhere near all my effort either. So if you want to
change, you can do it and it won't hurt that bad. Even if you just start
with a set of dumb-bells and work your arms and chest, and do crunches for
the abs. Once you get going you can hit a point where the results feed
your motivation.

Are you just built thin? Cuz that's *really* thin. My eldest boy is a
little taller than you - 6'2" - and he weighs 190. He's not got an
ounce of fat on him, though he's a total workout hound.

Yeah, at my physical peak I was 140 and it was all muscle (i'm 5'11").
I'm still 140 but it's no longer all muscle. :) What a difference that
muscle makes. PLUS you can eat like a pig and then do it all again
three hours later, ohhh yeah. Those days are over for me..unless i
started to work out again.

I think it is my build. I've never been told that I was overly thin. And
I have very broad shoulders too. The only thing people ever commented on
was my face being shallow when I dipped into the low 140's.

Then, a couple of months ago, I noticed I was 175 lbs. I didn't have

Not overall. But all the fat is in one area. I don't like the feeling of
having a pouch.

That was my thinking. I like pizza too much to give it up. And the weight
lifting makes me feel better overall, so it's easy to keep up.

I can understand that. I have to be quite thin to feel good but it's
only because i'm small boned - even though those small bones are very
LONG bones. :)

Yeah, and it's really good for depression too, though I hate to bring it
up (here of all places). I was heavily into running for quite a few
years, and there was nothing like the feeling you get when you are done
with your run.
One thing that always stuck out when I was working out regularly - some
days I'd be incredibly strong, freakishly strong, some days I'd be weak
as a kitten, never could correlate it with anything at all. I'll never
forget this one particular run I had, it was about mile five and I got
this burst of energy and went flat out for at least a mile, my b/f at
the time couldn't keep up - and he was a marathoner. It was bizarre.

I wouldn't say it was unhealthy. I have always had a runner's body, even
though I gave up running after high school.

I've always thought so. I've always wanted to pack on some pounds, as long
as it is muscle, not Klondike bars.
