Object: feeling nostalgic
I miss the days when I used to post here regularly.
I was reading some old posts on Google from when I was a frequent
poster here. They made me both laugh and cry.
It was the most horrible time of my life, but I found a lot of support
here. I really belive the people in this place helped to save my life
on more than one occasion.
Some of the support came in the form of discussions about what I and
others were going through at the moment. Some of it came in the form
of humor that distracted me from my grief for awhile. I miss reading
silly polls, lyric posting marathons, pun cascades and other
goofiness.
I also enjoyed reading smart people have deep discussions about things
that were over my head intellectually, but were damn interesting to
read.
I even miss the high drama of the flamefests. They could be quite
entertaining.
But mostly I miss knowing that I could open my newsreader at anytime,
day or night, and find a friend to talk to. My life has been really
shitty for a few months now, and I miss the support I once got here.
I'm not trying to say that the group is no good now. People certainly
still support each other here, but it doesn't feel the same to me. And
it might just be me and the place I'm in right now. I know that there
are a lot of good people here, but somehow I don't feel as comfortable
posting as I once did. The group dynamic has certainly changed, and I
have certainly changed too.
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm curious. What do
other long time posters think? Is it because many people now post on
web based forums instead of usenet? Is there less camaraderie and more
mean spiritedness here nowdays; more flame and less fun? Or is it just
me?

I know that feeling. So long ago, look where we were.

It was the most horrible time of my life, but I found a lot of support
here. I really belive the people in this place helped to save my life
on more than one occasion.

it certainly kept me going, and saved from doing even dumber things than i
was doing here!

others were going through at the moment. Some of it came in the form
of humor that distracted me from my grief for awhile. I miss reading

there were moments of irreverance that kept it going. the gallows humor.

I also enjoyed reading smart people have deep discussions about things
that were over my head intellectually, but were damn interesting to

I even miss the high drama of the flamefests. They could be quite

mmm. popcorn and ***** waving.

But mostly I miss knowing that I could open my newsreader at anytime,
day or night, and find a friend to talk to. My life has been really

it's hard when you do not see a fasmiliar face. sorry things are a bit
rough.

I'm not trying to say that the group is no good now. People certainly

i've moved to a different outlet, a different place. the blogging world.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm curious. What do

i don't know if it's you. people get other outlets, other things in their
lives than a usenet group and they drift away. sometimes it hurts when , for
no known reason, someone you become close to online disappears with no
explanation.
i'm still online, a lot, but not here anymore. my email is always open to
you.

Don't do that to yourself. I was afraid someone might think that,
which is why I pointed out that there are still good people here. I
consider you to be on of those good people, and I'm sure many others
do also.
I'm sorry I stirred up those feelings. I can relate to feeling that
way, but it's just not true. Like Dave said, I think it's a
combination of things for me. Perhaps 5 years from now, people will
become nostalgic for posts by and about millipedes. ;-)

that's a relief, but i do find myself worrying about this from time to time.
truth is, we probably all do. i guess i'd just like to be everything to
everybody. especially to folks like yourself who have really suffered
tremendously.

I aint a long time poster, but sometimes "goofing off" is the only way
I can interact with the group. If I were to give in to how I feel, I'd
sit in the dark and not do anything. Sillyness and making light of how
you feel can sometimes be your saviour. You make me smile and sometimes

Why in the world would you think that?

i goof off in here too much. as an escape, sure...but maybe it's to
the
detriment of the whole group.

I aint a long time poster, but sometimes "goofing off" is the only way
I can interact with the group. If I were to give in to how I feel, I'd
sit in the dark and not do anything. Sillyness and making light of how
you feel can sometimes be your saviour. You make me smile and sometimes
lol. Please don't stop.

i couldn't possibly agree with you more, Bored To Tears............sounds
like we're a bit alike

Unfortunately, everybody here has one horrible thing in common...but if
I hadn't come here I wouldn't have had the chance to meet the good,
strange, weird, funny and warm-hearted people that hang around. Thank
you to everyone who has given me a reason to switch on my computer.

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm curious. What do
other long time posters think? Is it because many people now post on
web based forums instead of usenet? Is there less camaraderie and more
mean spiritedness here nowdays; more flame and less fun? Or is it just
me?

It's not just you. The group had definitely changed. I don't know if it's a
good thing or a bad thing, but it has. I don't know why either, except that
a lot of people who used to post have gone away.
It's good seeing you, Kit4Kat.
