Finding more work... |
I hope at some point that I can find more paid work...I'm happy to be
doing more volunteer work,at the red cross and now for JFS,but I feel
a sense of guilt,or somethign like guilt for not having more paid
work. Not that there is anything wrong with volunteer work,I know
volunteer work is important. It's just that I feel guilt about
recieving a lot of financial support.Of course it's nice to not have
to pay rent or bills ect...but being 30 years old,it's also kind of
embaressing...And I feel sad that other people work so many hours, and
don't get a lot of financial support,as well...Does anyone else feel
guilt about being financially supported? If I could somehow get a job
doing telephone surveys again, that would be great.I had mixed feelings
about doing surveys, but overall it felt good to have more paid hours
of work.10 hours of paid work a week isn't enough for me.

I'm not sure exactly Cyberdroog...Part of the problem could be my
handwriting,it's very sloppy...I've applied for many jobs, places like
bookstores,and other stores...but I never get a reply from them.I've
applied to Walgreens about 5 times,it would work out great because
it's literally right next to me,but for some reason they never get
back to me...

Hopefully you'll learn Marty, someday, that we are all citizens of the
universe...It doesn't matter what your religion is,what country you
come from, what you look like, none of that matters...Bigotry is
ignorance...I don't think there's anything worng with being prejudiced
if you are working on it,trying to let go of your prejudices...What IS
wrong is holding onto them and not trying to get over them...

I see what your saying Naomi..Going hungry or not having a place to
live is definatly not something I'll ever have to worry about, and I'm
very thankful for that...It's just that It often makes me really sad
that many other people can't say the same thing,so many people have to
work so many hours to make ends meet...I guess all I can do is try to
contribute to the world in any ways possible, whether in volunteer work
or paid work...

Alvin, if you are actually financially secure for life, there are a lot of
things you can do for those less fortunate without pulling in a paycheck--
things that would be much more beneficial to them than your working 40 hours at
some random job.

Naomi, yep,I guess your right...I guess I just have that white, liberal
guilt,or whatever it's called...Yeah,that's what I want to focus
on,remembering that the key is to help people, not get too caught up in
the conventional, puritan "hard work" ethic that is very common in this
country...There are many ways to be helpful and make a differance....

you mean *jewish* guilt. maybe you feel guilty for your people
profitting from the misery of gentiles... if it is possible for a jew to
feel guilt, which i doubt.

Actually, it was ignoring what the bush had to say that sent them

Why is it that you don't find paid work when you are obviously capable of
working? Is the economy that bad in your area?
Personally I'm thinking of finding a regular salaried position. It's nice
to almost always be able to make my own hours, but I'm getting a little
worn down emotionally. I often feel like I'm flying by the seat of my
pants.

** you too huh. Small bizs can be such a stretch sometimes, not to mention
the stress, emotional strain etc.. Seemingly close to stitching up a
contract worth much more than could be earned from salary though and it
shouldn't involve too much stress either. But who's fooling who - it will.
Deadlines nearly always = stress
maybe a regular job is the way to go. Time will tell

There isn't necessarily a job out there for ppl who haven't been
working a while. I know that I really don't feel up to many full
time jobs but the reallly low paying ones hire younger (<30) ppl
here AFAICS.
I'd like to make _some_ more money, any amount, but no luck so

I would not feel guilt about it. There's no special moral value in making money
for its own sake, and not everyone is lucky enough to have a vocation they
would still pursue if they won the lottery.
To be honest, though, I would feel scared. Over the past, say, 5 years, I have
watched friends and family members who thought they were financially secure
because of family money find out that they were not. It would scare the crap
out of me not to be at least contributing to a retirement fund of some kind.
