Object: Finding Nemo [*****]
Bought "Finding Nemo" for my grandkids.
Why is it all these kid's movies start off with Mom dying? Man,
it started with "Bambi" and it doesn't frigging stop!
Disney, et al. WTF is your goddamned problem with mothers!?

Bought "Finding Nemo" for my grandkids.

I was beginning to think something along those lines myself. Is there
really that much difference in the main plot line between Bambi and The
Lion King? Campbell's discovering similarities in mythologies does answer
that.

It's not mythologies.. so much as "formulas".
They find one that works and beat it to death.

I think it's because they know they don't have the talent to
write a convincing mother character, but they can stereotype the
father. So, they have to get her out of the story line fast.

A 'convincing' mother character?
That could be true.
I mean, look at the ones they've created so far...
Caring, attentive, loving, devoted, interested in the kid...
definately not from any reality I've ever seen.
They probably have to get rid of the mother char. early because it's
hard to keep her loveable for long LOL
