A flat has burned tonight in the apartment building where I live,
the firemen left less than one hour ago. No one was injuried, only
loss was the apartment - and having to bear this smell.
For once, I HAD a camera, so I could have taken pics of everybody
in the street, in their pijamas and robes (and pets, babies, etc)
but, of course, the battery was dead, just my luck.
So, how's things? I've had to reinstall everything (HD failed, thank
goodness for backups and cheap CDRs) and didn't read you people for
some days (so if you wondered why I was so silent, well, that's why).

The garage set fire to my car last week while they were 'mending' it. I
got a full valet out of them as a result, which is not unreasonable as
they filled the car with fire extinguishant. No millipedes were injured.
I don't approve of fires.

They use dry chemical on it? that is bad stuff, corrosion shows up
after time.
A radio engineering magazine had an article about equipment that had
been treated with the stuff. the summary of the article was "Don't
spray it on anything you want to keep." make sure it's very well
cleaned, then sell the car.

The car is worth less than the work we had done to keep it on the road
for another year. It works well, and will go nearly twice as fast as
legal (with my wife driving), but the bills are going up. Nearly time to
exchange it for something newer (I always let someone else pay most of
the depreciation).

Things: fair to normal for me.
Probably just as well you didn't take the pictures. I don't believe
the folks would have been too receptive to that. Glad no one was hurt.
How're you, aside from the technical difficulties?

If you ask me, that's good enough; I would settle for that - for life.

Well, I didn't mean it /litterally/ - I hadn't the intention to go
around shooting worried/scared people in their sleeping clothes. I
wanted to keep some pictorial evidence of the event, though. I did,
however, observe them with interest - I noticed a number of pets, but
*no* children, except for one baby. Now, I'd understand that if all of
my neighbours were old people (most are), but there are a number of
young couples, too (talk of negative demographic growth). I think that's
what grabbed my attention about the people around me.
How're you, aside from the technical difficulties?
Crashing, but not BAAAD (as in "lusting after the thought of offing
myself"). I'd describe it as hopeless, but otherwise calm/lucid (more
or less). Thanks for asking.
