I assume the marine biologists who named it chose a variant spelling
of my nick, which refers to a mythical, composite creature.

Chimaera is a standard spelling here. I hadn't seen chimera till you
used it, but apparently it's okay here.

I always wondered where you got that nick from, and thought of you when I
found it reading fish books, but also found what you are talking about.
