Object: focusing on what we have in common
As Alan mentioned in a recent post to me,it's very easy to focus on
our differances...I was just thinking about this this morning...I think
it's so easy to focus on how a person is different from us in terms of
personality,temperament,backround,experiances,nationality,religion,race,class,appearence,political,social
differances ect...it's often easy I think to judge other people as
better or worse then us,based on whatever differances that we focus on
in the person...this often makes me sad...I often think that when we
are uncomfortable with other perople it reflects our own
insecurities...it talks about that in the book "The portable
therapist",about how the more we are able to love and accept ourselves
and our own weaknessess and imperfections the more we can love others
and accept their weaknessess and imperfections...I think that there is
a lot of truth in that...I think that often when other people make us
uncomfortable, when there is something about them that annoys us,it is
because we really don't want to see the parts of ourselves that makes
us uncomofrtable...It is easier to blame others then really be willing
to face ourselves...I love a passage my grampa read twice from the
prayer book at my cousin's Bar Mitzvah many years ago.(He read it twice
because he thought it was so important)It read:"Let us focus not on
what divides us,but instead let us focus on what unites us."

I don't do any of this so to say , " we " do is incorrect ,
and you actually know nothing about me so you really don't know ,
what my differences are to go ahead and be comparing them to anything ,
this time i took the liberty of correcting your errors

Do you remember when George W. Bush offered a bizarre interpretation of
"uniting, not dividing" on the Letterman show?

Yes, yes, we know.
The Letterman incident was really pretty wacko. It was March 2000, the
first campaign was in full swing, and Letterman had just had heart
surgery. His brief video-link chat with Bush included the following
memorable exchange:
Letterman: "You often say: 'I'm a uniter, not a divider'. What does that
mean?"
Bush: "It means when it comes time to sew up your chest cavity, we use
stitches as opposed to opening it up."
This was supposed to be humor. You can watch the clip here:

Some people shouldn't try to tell jokes. I've been attacked for some
here.
I suspect that a lot of it depends on how you feel about the joke
teller.

Maybe you should start with something of more manageable size, like
America.

As best as they can tell, the universe is flying apart at an accelerating
rate. So good luck with that...
