I can never get people to understand that poetry is the expression
of excited passion, and that there is no such thing as a life of
passion any more then a continuous earthquake or an eternal fever.
Besides who would ever shave themselves in such a state.
Lord Byron in a letter to Sir Thomas Moore, dated , the 5th of July,
1821
Fare The Well
Alas! They had been friends in youth.
But whispering tongues can poison thruth.
And constancy lives in realms above
And life is thorny, and youth is vain
And to be wroth with one we love,
Doth work like madness in the brain,
Buth niether found another to free the hollow heart from paining
They stood aloof the scars remaining
Like cliffs which have been rent asunder,
A dreary sea now flows between,
But neither heat nor frost or thunder, shall wholly do away I ween,
The marks of that which once hath been, lord byron
