I don't drink and I am too old (read: uninterested) to date someone and
suggest that.

Don't know Chex mix but Trail Mix is that stuff that feels like
you are eating a crunchy mixture of chilli and sand. Goes great
with nearly any liquid but red wine is particularly relevant.

Here trail mix is usually nuts, raisins, chocolate bits...
Munched on while...on the trail, such as backpacking around the wilderness.

Maybe I'm getting the name wrong. The mix I'm talking about was
started, I believe, in Tibet. The Indians redeveloped it in their
own inimitable style and sold it on a world wise basis. It seems
to be very small noodle stuff that is so dry it is granular after
the first crunch and it has a strong spicy taste that is very hot
after one or two mouthfuls. It also creeps up on you and is not
honest at all.
I have also heard of the nuts and raisins mix... here we simply
call it Nuts and Raisins...

Lachha. It's not noodles, it's potato strips.

Ah, Thanks Bev. The only time I can handle it is with lots of
beer which I'm sure is it's main objective. After a while your
whole mouth goes numb and that seems to be another 'benefit'.

I did elderflower once, that was nice, but weak. OTOH, the orange wine
would have blown your socks off!

That I would love to try. Or if I could find proper cherry cider...
There's a meadery in the area and that's pretty tasty stuff but rather
expensive. I had a friend who used to make his own before this place was
around, his was better.
