For google users |
For google users who are intersted, here are some instructions on how to
set up newsgroups using outlook express. There are many other news
reader programs around, but most windows users have outlook express
already installed on their computer, so it's a good one to start with.
(the comments in brackets are added by me, in case that's not obvious by
the change in writing style)

Internet Explorer Newsgroup Setup Instructions
Published: August 27, 2001
Follow these steps to access Internet Explorer newsgroups using OutlookŪ
Express.
1. Print out this page for easy reference as you go through the steps.
2. Launch Outlook Express. You may be asked whether you want to make
Outlook Express your default e-mail program. If you don't have Outlook
Express installed, you can download Outlook Express from the Internet
Explorer 6 Downloads page. (You will need to download and install
Internet Explorer 5.5 or Internet Explorer 6.)
3. On the Tools menu in Outlook Express, click Accounts.
4. In the Internet Account dialog box, click the Add button, and then
click News.
5. In the Internet Connection Wizard that appears, type your name in the
Display name field, and then click Next. Type your e-mail address in the
e-mail address field, and then click Next. (Consider adding a spam
block - eg - which people must manually
remove, so that you don't receive spam from programs that automatically
search usenet looking for email addresses)
(6. Type in the name of either the news server provided by your ISP,
which can be found in the setup info on your ISP's website, or the name
of a free news server, such as nntp.aioe.org - others can be found by a
google search)
7. Click Next. Click Finish, and then click Close.
8. When asked, "Would you like to download newsgroups from the news
server you added?" click Yes.
(9. Select alt.support.depression, alt.support.depression.flame and any
other newsgroups you're interested in.)
If you have a newsreader other than Outlook Express installed, please
follow the instructions for your product to access the newsgroups.
These can most likely be found in the programs help file.
