Here is the presenters BIO:
In recent years, psychiatry has come to understand mental health
disorders as a result of a brain chemistry malfunction rooted in
genetics. This "medical" approach has taken the place of the
psychoanalytic approaches that were dominant in the 50s, 60s and 70s.
This presentation will compare these two different philosophies,
discuss their relevance for ADD/ADHD treatment and introduce an
integrative approach to the understanding and treating of adult
ADD/ADHD.
The proposed integrated treatment is focused on symptoms' reduction
and resolving practical issues but also concerns itself with
illuminating the impact of the ADD/ADHD on the patient's feelings,
thoughts and behavior.
Dr. Israel Romano is a clinical psychologist in privet practice with a
specialty in treating adults with ADD/ADHD and learning disabilities.
His private practice includes executive coaching and organizational
consulting. He currently serves as a director for quality management
for mental health services in a major health insurance company in New
York City.
Dr. Romano holds a Bachelor degree in Sociology and Political Science
from Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel, a Ph.D. degree in Clinical
and School psychology from the Derner Institute in Adelphi University
in Garden City New York and an Organizational Development Certificate
from the White Institute in Manhattan.
