just so you know, if you're going to be talking about religion
in a post, it's considered polite here to 'spoiler' it with a
mention (religion) in the subject line. some people here have
had very bad experiences with religious leaders or organizations
and are easily triggered. thanks.

Yes, I understand Lisa.
I appreciate your sentiments.
Millions of people have been murdered
in the name of "religion".
That's why I am not religious.
I just believe in Jesus Christ,
and the way he lived
and the things he taught
eg: "Love your enemies"
This Jesus relieved my depression
and I want to share the news with others
- for their benefit, not their ruin.
I don't kill, I don't condemn.
Because Jesus didn't either.
Religion kills.
Jesus gives life, and life more abundantly.
Thank you for bringing up this subject
It is time to clear things up.
God bless you.

I've explained elsewhere that it is easier to killfile me.
Also, it is a bit useless to include a 'spoiler', since everyone can see who
sent a post, the poster's
name is fully displayed. People who don't want to read a poster's response
can simply read who the poster is
and ignore, no?

Then how about putting the word "Christian" in the subject heading?
We have a very very LONG standing custom here for this courtesy.
There are other topics that many have urged us to use here too, such
as (by no means a complete list):
OT (for Off Topic)
Humor
Sexual topics
Child Sexual Abuse
Cutting
Self Harm/Injury (SI)
Suicide
And it's really rude of you to bruss Lisa aside like this.

OK, we're going back in time. These issues have been
covered mostly already. But I will repeat this:
While freedom of expression and speech still exists in USENET and this is
not a moderated NG, I do not feel bound to comply with every
request/suggestion/advice/demand put forth by individuals here.
Besides, you appear to try and put the God I love and live for into a box
along with "Child sexual abuse" and "cutting" and "Suicide", etc. That is
just not kosher with me.
(Why must a person even link good old "Humor" with "Child Sexual Abuse"???
Don't they say 'laughter is the the best medicine'? Humor is a wonderful
tonic, and I'm sure that its curative powers for depression are not to be
ignored either.)
And it's really rude of you to bruss Lisa aside like this.
Brush her aside? Do you mean that, because I chose not to comply with her
request, I have 'brushed her aside'? Not at all. I'm sure we both respect
one another, and in times of disagreement, we will continue to respect one
another's right to free speech.
And I hope you can join in too.

You're not showing respect for local customs. That's bad netiquette
as it was taught to me years ago by those monolithic "oldbies". And
all I can conclude about this is that you DON"T respect others. Your
need to rebel is stronger than respect.
But hey, if I'm the only one complaining, then .... <shrug>
whatever. c'est la vie.

No, you don't need to shrug.
I respect what you have said, even
though I may not agree with you.
I have been flamed, sworn at, cursed,
hexed even, for my beliefs,
not much in this NG, but in others.
It's part of freedom of expression
a liberty which I find sometimes hurtful,
but sometimes exhilarating too.
Everybody is so unique!
I have a few personal rules of my own
as regards netiquette, and I enforce
these rules on myself, NEVER on others:
1) Do not condemn or judge a person.
2) Do not curse or attack a person.
3) Uphold everyone's freedom to choose
4) Admit when I am in the wrong
5) Try and be wise enough to know when I am in the wrong!
6) Try and respond to every post directed at me.
7) Rather make friends than enemies.
I have absolutely no qualms about sharing my
faith in Jesus with anybody, because he's
the central part of who I am.
And I fervently believe that Jesus Christ
has the love, power and wisdom
to help us deal with ANY kind of depression.
And I believe I would be sinning
if I kept that kind of good news
from people who suffer.
I hope you understand my viewpoint
even if you don't agree with it.

stronger than respect.

Another long-standing practice here, as all over usenet, is to use the bozo
bin (or plonk, or killfile, or block user) for people whose stuff we don't
want to read. Some news-readers can block subsequent threads or
sub-threads as well.

Thanks for that reminder.
I would prefer that members use the killfile option if they don't want to
read my posts. Most of my messages are replies to posts that already have
their own subject headings, and since users can see my name, isn't that
enough? Killfile is best.

OT (for Off Topic)
Humor
Sexual topics
Child Sexual Abuse
Cutting
Self Harm/Injury (SI)
Suicide
I continue to be baffled by the idea that humor and "OT" posts need to
be spoilered. Can someone explain this for the benefit of our
insensitive newbie, while we're on the subject?
Of course, I also think spoilerism (a religion in its own right) is
often more a kind of sport than anything else, a game about making rules
for the primary purpose of trying to force others to follow them.
Especially when it comes to religion; I'm a hard-core atheist myself
(whoops, didn't spoiler for that, sorry), and yet I am sympathetic to
those who resent having their beliefs lumped in with suicide and child
abuse. Lots of people have issues with their parents; shouldn't there be
a spoiler for that topic as well?

just so you know, if you're going to be talking about
religion in a post, it's considered polite here to
'spoiler' it with a mention (religion) in the subject

religious leaders or organizations and are easily
triggered. thanks.
Yes, I understand Lisa.
I appreciate your sentiments.
Millions of people have been murdered
in the name of "religion".
That's why I am not religious.
I just believe in Jesus Christ,
and the way he lived
and the things he taught
eg: "Love your enemies"
This Jesus relieved my depression
and I want to share the news with others
- for their benefit, not their ruin.
I don't kill, I don't condemn.
Because Jesus didn't either.
Religion kills.
Jesus gives life, and life more abundantly.
Thank you for bringing up this subject
It is time to clear things up.
God bless you.
Roland
but what about people who don't believe in jesus, such as
folks of other religions or backgrounds?

It's easy, Lisa.
We love them,
because our own God does too!
Of course we'll affirm our own faith,
but we'll never force anybody in any way.
It MUST be a 'free choice' thing.
Those who call themselves 'christian'
-and kill and maim in order to promote
their 'christian religion' are NOT followers
of Him who said "Blessed are the meek...."
--They are just pretenders.
Watch out for them.
But still seek for the truth.

There are people on the Buddhist newsgroups who claim Buddhism isn't a
religion. I have no idea how they define 'religion.'

I think the word 'religion' is easily defined
as a belief in a supernatural being or power.
It is also true that just like the word 'love' is often equated with sexual
intercourse and it's original meaning has been contaminated, but it still
carries some weight.
More messed-up is the word 'religion'. Because there are so many different
belief systems, and a lot of them are simply concocted and supported by mere
men, who use it for personal gain, political power, etc.
So 'religion' has lost almost all its original meaning for me, therefore I
don't use the term.
