Fred 1, Maytag Breakdown 0! |
The dryer broke this morning. I hauled it out to the middle of
the cellar floor and took the front panel off. Belt broke. Luckily
there was a local shop down the street who sold parts and he gave
good advice about how to get the belt around the drum (take off
the two drum support brackets in the front and slide the belt through
the gaps). Some jiggling of the belt when it got tight around the
'idler pulley' and the motor and eureka! I phoned the parts guy back and
thanked him for the good advice.

I guess this explains why I didn't find a note telling me when you'd made an
appointment for the repair guy to come out on Wednesday. Jeez, you tell the
newsgroup but you didn't leave *me* a note! So I guess this means that
don't have to stay home Wednesday and can go to my class graduation
ceremony/party at work. Cool. Thanks!
I can't believe you fixed it! Without using the chainsaw even!

Heh, I figured you would see my post, I almost was going to title
it 'Bunny: dryer fixed!' but thought that would be too ostentatious
or something.

Hmmmph. Remember, Don gave me a reciprocating saw that can cut
metal...it even comes with a special emergency blade for cutting
cars to rescue people trapped in their cars!

Yes it is. I've always felt the need to be 'self contained'
with that independence from others I would have if I were
more self contained. So I try to fix my car ('69 VW Beetle!)
on my own for example. It's always a great feeling when I
don't have to rely on others and figure out how things
work (and don't work!).
:-D

LOL! My unmentionable clothing would be even more
disreputable after that kind of fabric softener!
So far two loads of wash dried so I think the operation
was a success!
