Object: Government drug test & prescription drugs: Risk of false positives?
I just learned that, for a contract job for the government, I may need
to have my urine tested. I do not use any illegal drugs whatsoever.
However, I am on a ton of prescription drugs:
Zantac (Ranitidine)
Toprol
Zocor
Depakote
Zyprexa
Remeron (Mirtazapine)
Provigil
Desipramine
Ativan (occasional use only, and not recently)
I also take Melatonin to help me get to sleep at night.
Is there any risk that any of these medicines could yield a false
positive in terms of indicating that I am taking any actually illegal
drugs?
Thanks in advance for all replies.

even if it doesn't cause an error in drug type testing ,
they surely will think twice about hiring someone on this much stuff

In my job they random test everyone
and I've gone a few times. The
medical dept. knows the meds I take.
Toprol doesn't seem to be a problem,
same with effexor. Just tell them what
you take. And don't take anything off
the shelf with alcohol in it ie nyquil
before the test. Some at my job don't
even eat poppy rolls or bagels. They're
testing for alcohol and narcotics. So
act accordingly. Prescriptions you
should tell them about. Good luck.

What you do is this: you provide them with the list of
prescription medications that you are taking. They should know of
any potential false negatives.
Then, if their tests indicate anything odd, you squawk like hell.

Tell them in advance about everything you take.
