Guns... |
I'm not trying to provoke or looking for a fight here, but for *****
sake, when will the US do something about guns?
How many children have to be slaughtered before the US government acts?
Instead of wasting time voting on bills to ban internet gambling (in
the country that has, by far, the biggest gambling industry in the
world and is trying to export it here), perhaps banning gun ownership
would be a better idea?
Save the children: Ban guns.

Not that simple. If I thought a ban would work...
well I don't know what I'd support then. NYC has
strict gun laws, but quite a few illegal guns.
Your disgust pain and fear are commendable.

I don't know the anwser, but we have to do something... In the
city where I live, kids are getting shot all the time. The problem
seems to be getting worse and worse... If banning guns would work to
stop kids(and everyone else) getting shot, I'm sure most people would
be all for it...

The kids who snap and just start blowing other kids away tend to
be white suburban kids, or from rural areas not from inner cites where
we know there is a higher crime rate .
doesn't fit.

Don't you live in New York? They already have a ban on handguns. Obviously
it doesn't work. It doesn't work in Washington D.C. either.
Some would point out that such limited bans are useless because guns can be
easily obtained outside the city. But that is the point. Criminals will get
guns any way they can. The old adage that if guns are banned only criminals
will have guns is no joke, it's a truth.
All states that have adopted concealed carry laws have seen a drop in
crime. Criminals are generally cowards who look for the easy mark; just
like all other predators in nature who go for the smallest and weakest
game. There has been more than one study, and countless anecdotal reports,
of criminals in prison who state that they will avoid a potential target if
they think the target is armed.
All of this means less victimization for decent people. It doesn't do
anything for criminals who shoot each other, such as gangs, or the innocent
bystanders that get shot in such exchanges.
The answer? Enforce the laws that are already on the books. There is a
federally mandated five year additional sentence for using a gun during the
commission of a crime. But the gun possession charge is almost always
thrown out in a plea bargain! *That* is what you need to contact your
representatives about. And that is what you need to keep in mind when you
go to vote for your local DA. Vote for a DA that will toss out all charges
of marijuana possession, and instead use his/her resources to fight tooth
and nail prosecuting felons with handguns.
Even after my move, I'm still on the very edge of Milwaukee County, which
has one of the most incompetent and wimpy DA's in the nation. I'm starting
to think the criminals are his primary constituency.
I now border Waukesha County, which has the fiercest DA in the state.
If I ever become criminally minded, I know on which side of the border to
stay. Most all the criminals know.

If you make something illegal people will find a way to get it just
like drugs just like my Neighborhood! It will make it even somehow more
appealing. Think of prohibition. I live in one of the worst
neighborhood in Salt Lake City and no Slunky not Down Town near Rose
Park there have been shootings here on a regular basis and cops doing
something and stopping someone regularly. If you take away a person
right to bar arms the cops will be armed and the scum will be armed and
the rest? The rest will have to be either incredibly careful in there
bad neighborhoods or move to somewhere they can't afford were the crime
rate may be less. But these day it seems that crime is not economically
based so no place is really 100% safe it all a crap shoot. I think you
have to and should have the choice to bar arms if you want to. But if
the scum want to get a gun to cause harm there going to find a way
legally or illegally. Sad but true I don't think a law would make any

You are allowed to have an opinion as well as the right to express it. I
suggest, for your own sake, that you do just that without concerning
yourself with what anyone else thinks. Most of what goes on in here is not
personal and it helps to remember that and take everything said with a grain

If you don't mind me asking, what dose of lithium are you taking? I'm on
900 mg and 1350 mg on alternating days. Three 450's every day gave me hand
tremors.
I haven't seen any particular beneficial effects Bipolar-wise. But some
studies have suggested that lithium has a protective effect on neurons
(protection from damage by glutamate) and can actually promote the
generation of new neurons.

Oh no, I don't mind you asking. I take 600mg of Lithium at once right
before dinner around 5:00 p.m. I was taking it before bed, but was having
trouble with lethargy and serious difficulty waking up in the morning.
Since both my pdoc and my pharmacist said it didn't matter what time I took
it, I decided to fiddle with the time to find one more suitable for me. I
found that it sits better and I have fewer side effects if I eat right
after, so that's how I ended up at the dinner hour. Even on 600mg I get the
hand tremors too, some days are worse than others, but I don't find it
especially debilitating yet. I am required to drink at least 12 to 15
glasses of water a day and usually do, of course the downfall to that is 15
going in is about 25 coming out so, as you may already know yourself, life
is often lived around where the nearest washroom is located.
In my case the beneficial effects Bipolar-wise were enormous. My pdoc put
me on it because I was extremely suicidal at the time and she said it was
one of the most reliable and fast acting mood stabilizers for severe
suicidal ideation. As far as I was concerned, she was right. Within a week
or two the intrusive thoughts and compulsion was completely gone. She also
mentioned the new generation of neurons and seems to agree with much of the
research being done. She said once I reached stability and remained there
for at least six months, we could revisit the medication cocktail and adjust
it if necessary, but truth is, I don't know that I want to. I'm more stable
and happy now than I have ever been and don't want to start messing with
what works.

Water is the problem. I've been on a soda kick again. Caffeinated soda at
that, which is dehydrating. I have to start drinking more water.

Why not ban cars first? They kill far more children than guns. Then you
have swimming pools, which also kill more children than guns. If you check
the CDC statistics you'll find a lot of things that kill more children than
guns.
I think you have been shocked senseless by recent news. I don't blame you -
that is what the news is designed to do.
Guns cannot be banned in the U.S. The second amendment would take
two-thirds of the states to repeal. Impossible, especially since all but
seven states allow licensed concealed carry of firearms.

You know a weird law we have right here in Salt Lake City? It's illegal
to carry a ukelele in a paper bag down Main St. I don't know how much
they enforce it, and I'm not about to risk my ***** finding out.

There must be some fucked up story behind that law. "The drunk keeps
claiming its a ukelele and we can't search without a warrant. Let's
just add ukeleles to the open container law so we can take a look and
have it behind us. Hell, your pappy's the mayor and town judge."

Even if your other ten wives consent? That's outrageous!

routine, show me your drivers license, proof of insurance and your
afternoon gun of course."
