happy "got" day luce! |
a year ago today i brought my rambunctious, happy, lovely dog home
from the shelter. and what a year it has been!
i never realized how ridiculously in love a girl can fall with her
dog. she is everything i wanted in a dog. she's so smart, and she's
learned so much. she's got boundless enthusiasm for life and love and
tug. she loves to snuggle. she loves to just be around me. she's ready
for anything.
i remember our first obedience class, how mortified i was by how she
acted, how i thought the trainer was going to kick us out. now the
trainer just loves her and we've been working hard to train to
eventually, i hope, compete in rally obedience. she's come so far.
she's a lot of work. i wouldn't recommend this breed to everyone--
she's a handful--, but i'm so glad i didn't listen to the people who
told me i didn't want one, who told me that they're bad dogs, that
they're mean, that they'll "turn on you" and eat you at random. and
i'm glad i didn't listen to the people who told me to not get a dog
from the pound. she's not at all "damaged goods".
she has her quirks-- screaming when she doesn't get her way being the
most aggravating-- but i really could not have gotten a better dog.
so here's to you, eleusis my sweet girl. one year together and many
more to come, i hope.
and tomorrow, you're getting a brother!
