Lisa, do you have to groom your Maine Coons, so far so good with Ozzy
but I imagine as he gets older matts could be a problem.
He also has a horrible and permanent sinus condition, snores, breathes
heavy when playing, blows snot missiles...I'm taking him to the vet
next week but didn't know if it was something with the breed.

most of my cats don't mat. if they shed heavily, there might
be a loose clump of fur which is easily removed. two of my
cats do mat heavily and are afraid of combs. they're due to
have the matted areas shaved. the rest of my cats get an
occasional combing out. i use a comb designed for double-
coated dogs.
i have a cat that snores, but it's not a part of the breed,
and she only does it when she's very relaxed. make sure to
rule out asthma when you go to the vet.

He's a heartbreaker. He was born in a barn, eating red squirrel. I
saved his life once, a Fisher had him up a tree. Only time I heard him
scared.
