Good morning Dave. It's a bit chilly here at the moment but it's getting up
to 48 today. We tied the record for highest average December temperature on
record.
It's the start of the new year. For a whole year it will be 2007, and then
never again.

I'm working from home. I hope this works out because I love the short
commute. :-)
They're ordering me a new laptop that I'll do all the work on, so I'm
largely idle until that comes in. We're also waiting for a couple of other
events before we can really get rolling.
I'm also headed to Dallas Jan 15 for a 5 day "orientation class".

I wish I could. I find business trips to be extremely stressful. Fighting
traffic to the airport, parking, ticketing, toting baggage, security, flight
delays, weather delays, losing luggage, transportation. There's a million
things to go wrong and usually several do.

Traveling used to be an adventure, now it's just work. In previous jobs I
used to travel much more extensively and quickly grew tired of it. The
stresses, strains, long hikes to/from the gates, dangers of flying,
turbulence, being squeezed in like sardines, all of it. A perfect recipe
for panic attacks.

I like flying, especially take off when you get that fun g-force effect
pushing you into your seat and everything is going full blast. I see how
it could make some people nervous but I'm more bothered by the thought
that my luggage would get lost.

The takeoffs are the most dangerous time, when the engines are straining,
and the fuel tanks are most full.

True. That too. I've had my luggage lost multiple times. It's a major
inconvenience whenever it happens.
I've also had locks broken off, zippers jammed, straps torn, zipper tabs
torn off, handles shattered. The cost of the ticket is just part of the
expense of flying.

That's the rush, some of us don't become Navy seals and need a trip to
Ohio instead.

I admit. The takeoffs are a bit of a rush. The sense of acceleration. The
sense of danger. Very stimulating.

LOL!! I can certainly understand why someone would do that.
If it's possible, I take everything as carryon. It the only way I can keep
track of my stuff and not get it broken by the ground crew gorillas. But
for my next trip I have to pack for 5 days and that won't fit in a carry on
bag so I'll have to take my chances and check the bag.

My next trip is probably going to be heading to Mexico for a month, and
it looks like I'll be carrying $1200-1500 worth of computer parts, a
laptop (maybe 2 or 3)...
My history has shown I lose more my forgetting things on the plane. I've
never lost any luggage or had it molested.
