Object: help me..
...my posts aren't showing up for me! I can see responses, but not my own
posts. Just started happening for no reason that I can understand. I use
Outlook Express - which I'm not fully acquainted with.
Anyone know which side of my laptop to kick to get things working smoothly
again?

Well that's not going to work is it.
No, what you want to do is sit cross-legged in a salt-field, protest
peacefully that the consumer-greedy world slows down, and avoid being shot.

I go for writing your congressman, MP or whatever they call it wherever you are.
Or perhaps Mr. Gates has a moment to spare?

Maybe you have yourself killfiled. Maybe you are reading your posts as soon as
you post them and have it set to view read messages only. What I'm not getting

Have you set it to 'hide my own articles' or some such thing?
I suggest that you try something better than OE, for both mail and
newsgroups. Thunderbird can do both and seems to be getting popular - and
it's free. OE is horrible, and potentially a security and privacy
nightmare.

no, I did nothing. I checked every setting, and everything appears as it
should. And I've been able to see about half of my own posts actually..
...apparently randomly. And actually, just the ones earlier this afternoon
were in that period of random appearance to me. I think whatever it was has
ceased happening. I didn't reset my puter, or reload OE or anything tho,
(before it started working again). I just did a shut-down, restart, reload,
refresh.. ..and I still can't see those posts - that I have in my 'sent'
box. I dunno wtf that is. If my posts are in this newgroup, shouldn't they
load for me now? It's as if I changed my post name, killfiled that name,
and changed my name back.. ..but I know I didn't do that.. .unless I have
multiple personalities.. ..which I'm pretty certain I do not.

ok. I hear you. ..mayhaps i'll move on to better things. I just have all
of my email backed up for OE, so have stuck it out up to now.

Newsgroup servers can behave oddly; it's possible that the "Supernews"
server you connect to is dropping articles - including some of yours - even
though all your outgoing messages are getting through to other servers.
I don't know how Supernews arrange their systems, but your outgoing
messages may well be handled by a different machine from the one you are
getting incoming messages from. If there's a big enough 'lag' between the
various machines used by Supernews then you could be 'pulling' new articles
from a machine that hasn't caught up enough to have your own latest
articles, and when they do turn up on that machine, OE thinks that it has
already pulled everything that old so you never get them.

Most e-mail programs can 'import' files from OE - without 'deleting' them
from OE.

i've had messages sit in my outbox and not get to the server quickly. i
don't know why this happens sometimes. i just choose Send / Receive and
update all my email and newsgroup boxes.
Outlook Express is a bit finicky. but so is Thunderbird.
maybe it's operator error??

strange, I never saw this post either.. ..just in this response. I never
killfiled you wombn, and I just read a couple of your more recent posts.

no, I meant *yourself*. I have *myself* killfiled. Cuz it's all in
my out box anyway.

oh, no, I got what you meant.. ..but I was apologizing for not responding
earlier, (and I'd already subsiquently independantly posted some gibberish
about possibly kill-filing myself). I just wanted you to realize I wasn't
ignoring you.. ..that my puter seemed to have taken upon itself to
temporarily killfile you when you posted the above (I still can only see
that through the response, not your original post).
I do have my sent messages.. .I just find it hard to keep track of what's
going on without seeing my own posts in the thread-trees.. .I have the
short-term memory of a kleenex
anywya.. ..yadda yadda.. ..hope you're doing well!. and have a good
nite..

well same here. I do sometimes have to go back and read my own post
if the respondent didn't quote any of it.

anywya.. ..yadda yadda.. ..hope you're doing well!. and have a good

ditto!

worst thing about Thunderbird is that when you remove it and reinstall, it
keeps the newsgroup nyms. so i went through and manually deleted the
folders in Application Data. of course this causes some bugginess and then
my settings won't be saved.
i like the way Outlook Express works.

something i like about xnews. to remove it, just empty its'
folder. no registry stuff to worry about. to update, just copy
in the new .exe. very simple.
