Partly I think I come here to practice social skills too. Being able to
be goofy is a good thing, my whole life everyone hounded me for being
too serious and never smiling. I'm very much a loner, I get a lot of
social contact here that I don't get IRL.
Sorry I can't read your mind. :-/

i thought social skills was mainly about face to face contact? like
interpreting body language and making people feel at ease? the internet isnt
good at that sort of thing...more like youre practicing your typing coding
skills and checking out the contents of other peoples hard drive in case you
want blackmail them someday...
iow, borrrrrrriiiiiiinnnnnngg.
but suppose i met you *in real life* what do you suppose i would most like
about you, other than the fact that you cant read my mind?

True. Still, there are subtleties that you can pick up on in different
people. I think it takes real life experience to see them and
understand them. I read somewhere that 80% of emotional communication
is non-verbal.

You'd hate my guts, most women who meet me IRL feel an instant revulsion
and fear.

True. Still, there are subtleties that you can pick up on in different
people. I think it takes real life experience to see them and
understand them. I read somewhere that 80% of emotional communication
is non-verbal.

iow, borrrrrrriiiiiiinnnnnngg.

Hey, I met you and I know damn well that's not true!

Come to think of it, there are things about my new boyfriend... Mr. Nice
Guy, that remind me of Thor, and it's a very good thing.
Of course, unless I manage to smother him, like I have a tendency to do, and
make him run off screaming.
I don't know how not to do that :(
I think I have a major handicap when it comes to dating.
*sigh*
When I like someone, I want to be with them all the time. :-\ I gather
that's a bad thing.

you know, all this talk about 'addictive personality'...
well, alcohol, I can take it or leave it. Many other things I can take or
leave.
Relationships... I can't.
It's because of that stupid abandonment panic anxiety.
Looking at it logically it's rally stupid, you get attached, and in that
period of a relationship when things aren't for sure, you think that if
things don't work out, you're going to die... total panic attack. Just the
thought if it possibly not working out sends you into an irrational panic. I
HATE it... But I don't know how to not make it happen this way.
My new boyfriend just knows a tad, on the surface that I have some
abandonment issues... he has no clue how bad it is... Although, he has been
noticing that I'm not doing all that well lately. He thinks it's because
he's not doing enough. I tell him it's not him, that it's me, that I'm not
really good at taking it slow, that it's not his fault.
I want to take it slow too... I just have no idea how I'm going to pull it
off, cause the anxieties are killing me... and It's gotten bad enough that
every now and then I slip and bug him with stuff I know I shouldn't.
Maybe I need to look into something to take to dampen the effect for a
while.

Hmmm, I hope I'm not doing that. But, I'll have to give it some thought.
My first reaction would be... I may be doing this... I'm in a hurry to show,
here, this is why people don't like me, so before I get any closer to you, I
need to know you can tolerate the worst. then it gets better after that.
I'm also thinking... This is where I have a hard time balancing the feelings
vs. logic, cause logic tells me to do one things, and feelings to do
something else. at some point feelings get too intense to set them aside,
and I react to them, instead of following the logic.
Something that I think fits, I read it a year or two ago is about the
'attachment styles' there are secure and insecure attachments. Insecure
attachments have 2 subtypes... the distant on and the clingy one. I'm
definitely the clingy one. Don't mean to be, but the feelings tend to take
over.
Yea, it is an attempt to control the outcome, but an attempt that more often
gives the undesired outcome.
Well, what I'm trying to do is talk about it here more and not act like that
around him as much...
