Yea, there is that. It must be terrible to have such a weak immune
system that even reading a mention of a disease on Usenet you get
infected with it.

this is what i think his problem really is
Hypochondrias ( Hyperchondrical Disorder )
Because of misinterpreting bodily symptoms, the patient becomes
preoccupied with ideas or fears of having a serious illness.
Appropriate medical investigation and reassurance do not relieve these
ideas.
These ideas are not delusional (as in Delusional Disorder) and are not
restricted to concern about appearance (as in Body Dysmorphic Disorder).
They cause distress that is clinically important or impair work, social
or personal functioning.
They have lasted 6 months or longer.
These ideas are do better explained by Generalized Anxiety Disorder,
Major Depressive Episode, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder,
Separation Anxiety or a different Somatoform Disorder.
This is a chronic illness which usually develops in middle age or later.
Patients become excessively worried about a physical symptom and cannot
shake the idea that something is seriously wrong with them. They are not
overtly delusional in this belief, but they continue to worry despite
evidence to the contrary. They seek many tests and much reassurance from
their doctor. The patients often seem highly invested in their own
suffering. Males and females are equally affected, and such patients
tend to have obsessive and/or paranoid personality traits.

I think that might be part of it, but I really think he just makes this
stuff up and posts it to get sympathy and attention. I'm a cynic though,
and he's never given me any reason to think otherwise.

Exactly, and I should show you some of the e-mails he sends me. He
doesn't like it when we point this stuff out.

he use to e-mail me but then he stopped cause i told him not to ,
and he still does once in a while but its been a while ,
and if he doesn't like what i say about what he does ,
a sure way to stop me is to stop doing what he does

Okay let's say for the sake of argument David has this...Hypochondrias (
Hyperchondrical Disorder ) It IS an illness. In fact, Dave's posted
information says...(quote) this is a chronic illness (unquote)...so either
way David IS ill, and behaving as an ill person with Hyperchondrical
Disorder would, in a group of ill people, who are here to get and offer
SUPPORT for those who are ill. But instead, what you two gossipy little
girls are doing, with your whispering and your laughing and your talking
about him and around him with deliciously passive-aggressive behaviour, as
if he wasn't in the same room...so to speak...is ridiculing a man with
Hyperchondrical Disorder, in a newsgroup FULL of people with all kinds of
disorders. And how totally and completely fucked up is that?
