Object: Hey Used2be and Gayle
Hugh Laurie has been made an OBE in the New Year honours list.
http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/music/news/article2112578.ece
And if you don't know what an OBE is (and why should you):
http://www.honours.gov.uk/honours/types.aspx
Personally, I think honours handed out by an unelected monarchy an
affront to my dignity as a human being but, OTOH, it's nice to get
shiney things.

Have you ever seen him in any of his comedy roles? Like in Blackadder
when he played Prince George? I wonder if you'd find him as
appealing...

I'd say it is. It's public recognition for a job well done, really.
Even for those of us who aren't monarchists there's an acknowledgement
that some kind of award system is needed to show the nation's
appreciation. However, the police are carrying out an investigation
into "cash for honours" at the moment, have arrested a couple of
prominent people with links to the Labour party and have even
interviewed Tony Blair. The honours system needs to be totally
overhauled, I reckon.

cindybabes, Television Without Pity's House forum is still chock-full of
fans, if you ever need a home to House in. I had to go there to read for
emotional support after House drove past Wilson at the bus stop in that
heart-stopping "oh ne he didn't!" moment. I could not beLIEVE that! That
magnificent ratbastard!

I just visited that site -- he was in
"The Longest Day"? Wow, I don't remember
that at all. But then, it has been a while.

He's been in so many things it's difficult to keep track and he plays
the same character with the same voice in every one! But he does it
with class, though.

I was watching an interview with Eddie
Izzard on youtube and he talked about
doing his Connery imitation (which is
damn good, imo) in front of a German
audience. Or Italian or French or in the
Netherlands, I forget. They didn't
laugh. Later, he realised that all of
Connery's films were dubbed so that no
one knew what he sounded like. It
doesn't sound so funny writing it out --
but it made me laugh the way he told it.
