12/23/2007: It was Christmas Eve when George Bailey stared into the black depths of the river beneath the bridge in Bedford Falls, convinced the world would be better off without him. That scene from the 1946 movie classic "It's a Wonderful Life" could well have given birth to the media myth that Christmas is a trigger for increased suicides and episodes of depression.

Pioneer Press, heh, its headquarters is in Glenview, Illinois, the
suburb

papers is automatically a steaming pile of ***** :)

i especially love it when the media tries to explain to you why you
are actually not depressed, see it's all here in the numbers...i heard
a similar report about some study disproving increased suicide rates
(up to 40%) during the holiday, then they qualified it with selecting
a very specific 5 day period or something probably when all the stores
are closed and you can't buy a gun or pills or rope to hang yourself
so you have to wait....
