This hurricane is massive, IF directly over florida it would cover the
entire state, its a category 4 with 100-200mph winds. I'm very scared this
time. It could hit us, or at the last minute veer off to the north and no
one knows what it will do. So I went to the grocery store and it was packed
, the water was completly gone, there was hardly any canned food, shelves
were bare and people were scared. I bought a cooler, batteries, flashilight,
ice, tape, cans of tuna fish and baked beans and peaches, a lighter and
soda. I'm going 20 miles west to my parents house. I think my place is safe
structurally, but the windows might break and it could flood and my car
float away. I live about 100 feet from a mangrove and about 100 yards from
the intercoastal shore and 10-15 foot storm surges are predicted, so I guess
the whole place could flood. SO I put everything electronic up high and lots
of stuff in the closets and taped the closet doors and sealed them with
tape. I HOPE It doesn't hit, I'm so scared. Tomorrow, since the school I
work at is a charter school, I have to go in and help board it up so we have
a place to work on tuesday. School all over south and central FL are closed
Thur and Fri. and since Monday is a holiday I have almost 5 days off. yay
for that only. I taped up all my windows and sealed the doors with tape
except for one that I will have to do on the way out. I'm taking my cat to
my parents and he's going to be very unhappy there. I hate to put him thru
the stress, but I can't leave him here, he'll be scared alone. He already
knows something is up, won't come out from under the bed. It's gonna be fun
getting him in a cat carrier, not. god, this literally blows.

Maybe, but it's not just a florida thing. I lived in connecticut and went
thru storm floyd and gloria and many bad nor'easterns. It doesn't make it
easier to have been thru it before. worrying about my car being damaged, my
couch and tv and things that I have no money to replace, having a flooded
carpet and broken windows, looters and trees falling, roofs being ripped off
and blown on your car.. i don't think it's ever going to be something i'm
comfortable with anywhere on the eastern coast.

They seem much more frequent, much more damaging and much more

yeah, they have been predicting this since last friday at least. I've been

It's too much of a profit maker for the insurance companies!
Insurance should only be sold to people who can prove they
were born in flood/hurricane prone areas. People who move
to those areas have to take their chances. All that rebuilding
year after year just raises costs of building materials and
creates shortages. Make them rebuild their houses out of
reinforced concrete with inch thick plastic windows. Maybe
the concrete house thing would work for all the people
who keep building in those wildfire canyons on the other
coast too.

heh. Well, I did move into an area that was near the river and
appeared to me be below the level of the river..... and nthe first
winter there the river reached it's highest point in years. Driving
over that bridge was a tad.. nerve-wracking.
We're up much higher now. No longer in the path of Folsom dam, I
think.

They seem much more frequent, much more damaging and much more
stressful (if only because they're more predictable)
They always seem to happen during bad weather, too.

Eqs happen when
it's nice and calm, sunny, you can go outdoors if you want.

one knows what it will do.
Good luck, it sounds like you'll need it. this makes California sound
not so bad.
I suppose you know it, but set the cat carrier on end, grab the cat by
the scruff of the neck and lower it into the carrier. Much less fight
and damage that way.

I lived in Cocoa Beach and I've seen the geography change. only
safe place was the Twin Towers apartment buildings, or holing-up
in the Cape Royal office building. forget trailer parks. they end
up in the scraped-up mounds of mangled *****. most of the apts.
in Cape Canaveral were ***** and they likely get caved-in, too...
anchor yer car to the foundation with a quarter-inch steel cable
wrapped around the axle...donno about inside anywhere. carports
usually don't survive too well and they end-up smashing the cars
good luck

in Pahrumph (only one recent tornado they denied) they are called
stick-builts. everything else is either a shack or a modular house
just the weight of the grasshopper invasion collapsed a casino roof!

do I see a slight NNE movement? (weather channel isn't on. odd)
hmm, if a high pushes it a bit, it could move more east...
and there's a system in the East Atlantic that looks well-organized
oh yay
anyway, where I live, a lot of people come that have had their
villages and towns flushed-away by mudslides and floods...
then they get into violence and drugs, and kill each-other
